Hello October, my favorite month of the entire year! September flew, and I mean absolutely flew by and I’m sitting here wondering how on earth we are on the last stretch of 2017. September was filled with text books and lots of new learning, however I still made time for fun with my family and friends too. It was a full and wonderful month. I want to remember a few of the highlights from this very busy time of year and, as always, I would love to read about what made September special and memorable for you too.
The Washington State Fair| On a sporadic date night Jordan and I drove out of the city to the Washington State Fair. I grew up going to the fair but hadn’t been back for years. We had so much fun eating, looking at the animals, eating some more, contemplating going on rides but instead opting to eat a bit more and of course, people watching. We stuffed our faces with corn, chocolate chip cookies, french fries, cotton candy, fresh pineapple and even paella (I would not recommend fair paella). We left feeling gluttonous and sickeningly full, but it was a lovely date night all around!
Comedy Show| Now that my Aunt and Uncle have a place in Seattle, Jordan and I try to see them as much as their schedule and our schedules allow. One evening we all grabbed dinner and headed to a comedy show in Bellevue. Prior to the show we played a round of pool and sipped on champagne. I absolutely love to laugh and being surrounded by three of my favorite people made for a memorable evening.
Women’s Law Caucus Networking Event| I don’t consider myself a naturally gifted networker but I am pushing myself to get better. Lawyering requires quite a bit of networking (or so I’ve been told) so this month I pushed myself to attend a few networking events beginning with a networking panel. A week after the “Networking 101” panel I had the opportunity to put my skills to the test at a happy hour downtown put on by my school’s Women’s Law Caucus. I had the pleasure of meeting a handful of female attorneys in the area and learning more about their fields.
Bestie’s Birthday| This month my friend Nicole turned 25! Celebrating Nicole’s birthday is something I look forward to every September but this year I was particularly excited to celebrate my friend as she is moving to another state in a few weeks. We started off the day with champagne pedicures (absolute perfection) before heading out for the evening to play arcade games. I love Nicole, I’m going to miss her every single day when she is gone.
Law School Clubs & Organizations| I read countless blogs and podcasts about law school leading up to the first day of summer classes, though I was nervous I felt mentally prepared for the year to come. However, I was surprised to find many similarities between law school and undergrad (and dare I say, law school and high school). One of the most lovely surprises was how many clubs and organizations there are to join on campus. I was excited to join a handful of clubs from an organization that assists on refugee cases, to a women’s law group to a law fraternity. I was always very involved in high school and undergrad, so I am hoping to make lots of friends and connections in law school as well.
Now that I’ve bid September adieu I am ready to embrace the spookiest, happiest, most pumpkin-y month ever! Let the wild rumpus start, happy October my friends (:
