Hello, hello! If there is one word I would use to describe myself this week it is “tired” (not very creative huh?). The first six weeks of the new semester were go-go-go and this week all of the back to back action seemed to catch up with me mentally. While I am SO grateful for all of the experiences and adventures the past couple of months have offered, I am craving a little down time to reset my mind and get ahead on school work as well as chores around my apartment (my fridge could really use a deep clean, yikes).
The second semester of 1L year is even more of a whirlwind than the first. While I definitely feel like I am “in the rhythm” of law school now, I still can’t help but feel like I am drinking from a fire hose. There is so much I could be and should be doing at all times, throw in a workout routine and any sort of social life and it’s easy to feel like you are falling behind. I LOVE my property class and I’m still intimidated by my contracts professor. I am more comfortable sharing my thoughts and opinions in class but still don’t think I’ll ever become the student who needs to have his/her opinion heard throughout the entire class period. Speaking once is enough for me!
It is internship application season! I had one on campus interview earlier this month and have six interviews coming up. Securing a 1L summer internship feels slightly impossible. Most law firms want 2L students with more knowledge and a bit of experience from their 1L summer. Since my school is focused on public interest/social justice the unpaid internships with local public interest law organizations are just as competitive (if not more so). Truthfully, the internship hunt gives me a great deal of anxiety. I know I am just as equipped to intern as the other 1L students but I feel MAJOR imposter syndrome. I don’t even feel qualified as a legal intern yet because as a first year student there is SO much about the legal field I still don’t know.
Tulle and greenery and pretty stationary, oh my! Have I mentioned how much I love wedding planning yet? In fact, I love wedding planning a little too much as it serves as a perfect distraction from other important tasks in my life. Since we only have a couple months to plan our wedding it really does feel like I need to make big decisions every single week. I made a lot of the major decisions right away (dress/venue/photographer/hair&makeup) and our venue stipulated a lot of the vendors we are working with (DJ/Pianist/florist/catering) so I’m left with a lot of the details and decor (aka the fun stuff).
Most recently I have focused on bridesmaid dresses. In fact, I spent SO much more time thinking about bridesmaid dresses than I did about my own wedding gown. I couldn’t see my full wedding vision initially so I bounced back and forth between colors. Did I want emerald green or was emerald green too wintery? Then I ventured into dove gray…then I realized I really hate the idea of dove gray then I felt neutral about dove gray and then I moved on. You get the idea. I finally settled on a pretty champagne/nude color because I LOVE the look of all white weddings but wasn’t quite brave enough to go white on white on white myself. I’m not Kate Middleton, no use pretending I am right? Plus I love champagne and think the color is flattering for an array of skin tones and hair colors. Let me know if you guys would like to see a full post filled with bridesmaid dress inspiration?
Finally, we reccently decided to hire a videographer! When we first started balancing our wedding budget a wedding videographer just didn’t seem feasible. There are so many little details you can choose to splurge on for the wedding day but if you splurge on anything and everything it all adds up REALLY fast. I don’t really love myself on video so though I always tear up watching wedding videos on YouTube I didn’t think I would mind sacrificing this expense. The further I dove into wedding planning the more I realized the value of a videographer. While I think capturing our vows and first kiss are sweet, I was more enthralled with the idea of capturing all of our guests. I realized how great it would be to have video footage of the speeches, footage of my grandparents dancing, footage of my little siblings being cute kiddos while they’re still little…suddenly I couldn’t imagine forsaking videography. If you used a videographer I would love to hear about your experience. Did you go with a highlight video, a full film, all the archive footage, etc?
Please let me know what you guys want to read about when it comes to wedding planning. I always enjoy following bloggers who are planning their weddings and hearing about all the updates but I don’t want to overwhelm you guys with every last wedding detail if you aren’t feeling it (I’ve got my journal and besties for that, ha).
Friendships & Life
While I can lean towards anti-social hermit now and again, the past few months were filled with friends, family and plenty of new adventures. We have hosted friends for dinner pretty much every weekend, celebrated my friend Claire’s birthday over president’s day weekend and I’ve managed to fit in quick dates to meet girlfriends for a workout class, quick dinner or mani-pedi date on the weekdays too. Last weekend we had the BEST time with my Aunt & Uncle at Teatro ZinZanni. Now I have the theatre-bug and want to head to shows or dramatic performances every single weekend. Raise your hand if you’re down to head to the opera or ballet with me next month?!
As dorky as it sounds, Jord and I were both really excited about new smart lightbulbs and an upgraded Sonos system. I feel so high tech listening to my podcasts on the Sonos as I cook dinner and I could not be more pleased with the lighting in our living room right now. Bright white LED lights are great for that natural light look during the day time but feel so gross and sterile at night. I love that the new lights allow us to adjust the hue on our phones so we can have white light in the daytime and warmer light when I need to focus at night. It’s the little things in life, seriously.
I haven’t picked up too many new items for myself recently as I am focused on putting any/all spending money towards our wedding and wedding related costs however that doesn’t stop me from window shopping. I did purchase my wedding shoes & I can’t wait to share them with you guys in the near future.
I am SO over winter clothes, so even though Spring is a long ways off I am dreaming of pretty pieces like these gorgeous strappy sandals, this beautiful off the shoulder dress, this romantic maxi dress and this dreamy boho swim suit cover up. Realistically Washington doesn’t get warm until June so I’d be a lot better off if I could shake my delusions on summer for a few months…
I’m hoping to get back into a regular and consistent blogging schedule again soon, but realistically I’m not sure if I’ll get back into the groove until my spring break. Life is SO busy right now so I am doing my best to fully enjoy the seasons and phases I am living at this moment. xxoo!
