Hey friends! As per usual the weekend flew by and somehow I am left wondering how it’s already the 20th of December. This weekend was filled with errands and catching up on my to do list. On Sunday I watched my friend’s little sister’s performance of the Polar Express. Adorable! Can you believe the holidays are just around the corner?
I bought this coat on a whim while Christmas shopping with friends the weekend after Thanksgiving. I love navy and emerald together and the intricate details on this coat were just irresistible. All of my other Christmas shopping has been for other people, I promise!
Too much color can go crazy cat lady territory really fast. I definitely used to try and pair bright pink tights with a gray dress and the result was more “5 year old on her first day of kindergarten” than fashionable. My new favorite coat paired with a navy DVF wrap dress, a bright pair of pink pumps and a hot pink bow bag is colorful and bright without verging on crazy. In the winter I often opt for neutrals because so many of my closet staples (aka my warmest coats) are black, gray or navy. I’m certainly not against any of those colors but a pop of bright color feels refreshing during a gray Seattle winter.
I’ve worn the Tracy Reese coat with my DVF dress on several occasions this month (to two holiday performances and once to work). Each time I had strangers young and old stopping me on the street to compliment the look. During the holiday hustle and bustle it takes a pretty cute coat to slow down busy shoppers. Even Jordan noticed all of the attention the combo was getting. What can I say? The credit isn’t mine…it’s a show stopping coat!
I’ve become pretty obsessed with outerwear over the past month. I think the fact that I’m constantly cold has affected my shopping habits. Now that I am settled into the working world I want to focus on fewer sporty down coats (North Face, Patagonia, etc) and more chic dress coats. Of course cozy down will always have a place in my closet but it’s nice to add pieces that can go to the office, opera or out to a nice dinner. You don’t always have to sacrifice style for warmth.
