Hello! I am currently enjoying the beautiful sunshine in Napa Valley. Over the years Napa Valley has become a second home to me, I am so grateful every time I get to pop in and visit my family here. Sadly, I’ve been pretty sick since the day after Christmas. I have been drinking vitamin C and turmeric tea while avoiding dairy and alcohol. Yet my alas, my cold drags on! I woke up this morning actually feeling a bit angry because I have babied myself so much in hopes of feeling better by New Year’s Eve but it turns out shear force of will does not make a cold disappear. Who knew?
I have loved seeing all of the 2017 inspired posts out there. The older I get the more I seem to love the fresh start a new year offers. I’m always a goal oriented person so it isn’t so much about new year’s resolutions but rather the opportunity to sit back and reflect on everything that happened over the past 365 days. Despite the memes out there arguing that 2016 has been the worst year I am really grateful for a lot that 2016 has offered. 2016 has been one of the most “stable” years of my life in the sense that I haven’t moved, broken up, started a new relationship or changed any major aspects of my life (other than my job).
My relationship has grown stronger, my puppy has morphed into a full grown albeit naughty dog, and I have learned to stick up for myself rather than allowing myself to be a doormat for everyone I know and love.
I want to recall a few of my favorite memories from 2016:
A Fabulous 24th Birthday Celebration
I started off the year with a wonderful dinner party for friends and family. It was lovely to have so many of the faces I love all in one place and of course with delicious Italian food.
Playing dress up as a Bridal Consultant
I spent the first couple months of the year working as a bridal consultant at a popular wedding dress boutique. I loved meeting brides, trying on dresses and learning more about the bridal industry. Aside from working evenings and weekends it really was a dream job!
Easter on the Oregon Coast
The past two years Jordan and I have spent the Easter weekend on the Oregon Coast. Just a short car trip away I loved frolicking in the sand, trying new restraunts and shopping at little boutiques. This past year we stayed at a bed and breakfast with a giant clawfoot tub (my favorite)!
A long awaited trip to Paris
I’ve dreamed of Paris for as long as I can remember and this year I had the opportunity to spend 10 days in the city of light. My cousin Genevieve met me there and we had the best girls’ trip! The highlights include a macaron baking class, Moulin Rouge, touring castles and sipping champagne at the top of the Eiffel tower. I’m ready to go back already!
The Bay to Breakers race in San Francisco
In May I spent about a week in Napa Valley with my family. My aunt and I made a trip to San Francisco to run in the fabulous and eccentric Bay to Breakers race. I loved seeing everyone in their crazy costumes! San Francisco is such a lovely city, I love any excuse to visit.
My Mom’s Wedding!
On July 9th my Mom married her fiancé at their cabin near Mt. Rainier. They had a beautiful woodland wedding filled with lovely details. I was thrilled to be my Mom’s maid of honor. I love weddings and helping with the last minute details was a lot of fun. Their vows were so sweet I couldn’t help but tear up!
Boat trips & fun in the sun
Nothing makes me happier than sunshine. This summer I made it a priority to spend as much time as possible outside. Jordan and I spent 4th of July weekend boating on lake Roosevelt with some of his friends, I spent a weekend in Lake Chelan with my friends and we both enjoyed time boating in Seattle with Jordan’s family. Though I don’t like swimming I certainly enjoy being near the water in the sunshine!
Jackson Hole for Labor Day Weekend
I had the pleasure of jetting off to Jackson Hole, Wyoming for a long weekend in early September. My Aunt and Uncle recently bought a new house in Jackson and I was excited to explore the quaint cowboy town. There were so many outdoor activities in Jackson, I had the best time biking, hiking and riding the mini roller coaster in town.
The Pagan Ball Halloween Party
Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year. I adore dressing up and any reason to throw a party at a castle gets my stamp of approval. This year Jordan and I dressed as Margot and Richie from the Wes Anderson film “Royal Tenenbaums”. The Castello di Amarosa threw a fabulous party complete with a haunted house, dancing, endless wine and fortune tellers.
Genevieve moved to Vancouver
In November my cousin Gen trekked (i.e. drove) from Nova Scotia to Vancouver to settle her life in a new city. I went to Vancouver to visit her for a weekend in early November and she came to stay for Thanksgiving weekend in Seattle. Since my internship in Nova Scotia a few years ago I’ve been hoping to convince her to relocate somewhere closer to me. I am so excited to have her pretty face within a couple hours driving distance.
The Nutcracker & The Little Mermaid
December is a busy month but Jordan and I were able to squeeze in a handful of performances on the evenings and weekends. We attended two children’s dance performances (The Nutcracker and The Polar Express) as well as The Pacific Northwest Ballet’s version of The Nutcracker and the Fifth Avenue Theatre rendition of Disney’s The Little Mermaid. I adore live performances so splurging on both of these shows in one month was a wonderful treat.
Thinking about the past year gives me so many warm fuzzy feelings. I am happy with how 2016 panned out in my life despite the challenges I inevitably faced. I read so many books and ate so many yummy brunches. I explored so many new places and drank my fair share of champagne. I shared stimulating conversations with friends and so many snuggles and kisses with Jordan. I can only hope that 2017 is filled with just as much happiness. I already have a few life changes in store for 2017. When the timing is right I can’t wait to share with you! My 25th birthday is on the horizon as well as the anniversary of my blog. I cannot believe I have been blogging for almost four years. As cliche as it sounds life really does move by at a whirlwind speed. I’m doing my best to enjoy it.
Have a wonderful New Year’s Eve and I will see all of your pretty faces in 2017!
