Happy Halloween sweet pumpkin spice lattes! Today’s post is pretty short and sweet because I worked long hours all weekend at a bridal pop up shop leaving me with a mountain of school work to catch up on this week. I have to admit it’s the first time law school has felt impossibly large and daunting. I just keep reminding myself of the tried and true cliche “how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time“.
Still, I will not let law school, work or anything else ruin my love for Halloween! Though I am the girl who closes her eyes and plugs her ears when scary previews come on at the movie theatre, I have a soft spot in my heart for all things pumpkin. I love dressing up in silly costumes, I love covering my house in mini pumpkins, sugar skulls and skeleton window clings. I love taking as many trips to the pumpkin patch as I can and I love Halloween treats (obviously). So, even though I would rather lie in a freezing cold concrete room and study civil procedure than watch a scary movie, I adore Halloween.
The past couple of years have been “tamer” than my college years and I don’t hate it. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely loved the excuse to throw on a barely there costume and celebrate Halloweekend for four long days in a row within the sticky walls of a frat house but I am really looking forward to my cozy pajama-like attire and a glass of champagne within the comfort of my own home tonight. Maybe I’ll be the life of the party next year? Whose to say?!
Over the years Jordan has observed my giddy spirit come October. The first year Jordan and I were dating I tricked him into believing my family had given each other small gifts beginning one week before Halloween every day leading up to the 31st. I called my made up holiday “Halloweek”. Jordan quickly saw through my childish games but luckily found the idea charming. This year we both have really gotten into the “spirit of Halloweek”. We have both enjoyed picking out little gifts (like the other person’s favorite candy, a pair of Halloween socks, cookie cutters, flowers, etc) to surprise the other. Having a boyfriend that willingly complies with my over the top antics makes me one lucky gal, that’s for sure!
Today’s photos were taken by Madeleine Wilson. You may have noticed Madeleine has taken many of my blog photos recently, she is really talented so I highly recommend her to you Seattle girls. Like I’ve said before, I love Halloween SO much. I think pumpkins are so cute, when I first see pumpkins popping up at the grocery store I can’t help but squeal. Childish? Perhaps, however, there is so much to be sad and stressed over I like to look for all of the little reasons to be enthusiastically and energetically happy. Pumpkins make me want to cartwheel. I crossed my fingers and asked Madeleine if she could squeeze us in for a couple’s photo shoot at the pumpkin patch this year then prayed the stars would align and Jord wouldn’t protest my desire to frolic about like some sort of socialite. We set a date and I counted down to our shoot happily (see my tips for couple photos here). The day of our shoot was clear and beautiful. The weather can be pretty iffy this time of year in Seattle so I was thrilled for sunshine and warm weather.
Unfortunately Jordan and I showed up to our own shoot almost 30 minutes late meaning the sun was setting quickly and we had to make the most of our shoot. I was freaking out the entire drive to the pumpkin patch stressed and worried as we were losing light by the second. Madeleine was awesome though and was still able to capture both of our looks and make this goofy couple look radiant. I can’t wait to share the second outfit with you guys soon!
Happy Halloween everyone! Treat yourself to something sweet and hopefully enjoy a delightful night with your family and/or friends! xo!
