Adjusting back to life after a three day weekend is always a bit difficult, no? Though I didn’t head out of town for Labor Day Weekend I relished the opportunity to grab brunch, head the beach with a friend, catch a movie with Jord, (The Big Sick if you’re wondering), and lay in the grass reading for Civil Procedure. All of summer quarter I was lucky enough to have three day weekends so adjusting back to two measly days feels cruel!
I picked up this knitted crop top and these high waisted shorts before my trip to Germany this summer. Since then I have styled both pieces at least half a dozen ways (more for the shorts now that I think about it). Seattle is normally fairly mild and pleasant in the summer, but the last few weeks have been hot. Today it is really smoky from a fire outside the city and the temperature is supposed to rise to the mid nineties. It’s the exact hot, muggy weather that makes it hard not to crave fall. Don’t get me wrong, I adore my sundresses and sandals but if the sun isn’t out I see no need for the hot, sticky weather.
I only wish it was acceptable to go braless in a crop top to class. Alas, I will be forced to wear real clothes, professionally this is probably for the best but don’t think I won’t be cursing the Emily Post and all of her etiquette rules as I’m drenched in sweat this afternoon.
Are you ready for a sad story? The very first time I wore these gray suede booties I noticed a few black scuff marks that I couldn’t remove #ThisIsWhyICantHaveNiceThings. I tried at home suede cleaners/suede erasers/suede brushes and they only seemed to spread the stains. Please please, pretty please send your suede cleaning solutions my way! My next step is to try and take the booties to a cobbler who can professionally clean and treat the suede BUT if you have any suggestions I would love to read them. I love these booties so I’m going to keep wearing them stains and all if I have to…but I sure would be pleased if I could keep them nice for a handful of wears. For anyone else out there who is klutzy enough to stain your new shoes before you can manage make it to your car in the Nordstrom parking lot, I’ll be sure to share my suede cleaning experience with you if it’s helpful.
Treat yourself with your favorite caffeinated beverage today as your reward for smiling through the painful adjustment back to reality after a three day weekend. Personally, I’m sitting directly in front of a fan in my tiniest, breeziest running shorts and tank top sipping on my first pumpkin spice latte. It’s not a poetic scene but it’s the reality! (; Have a wonderful Tuesday and don’t forget to send me your suede cleaning advice.
