I am SO one of those people that will cling to the fact that just because it’s almost September doesn’t mean summer is over. While the school year may be in full swing we still have three whole weeks left of the season and I don’t intent to cut the summer short. I still want more ice cream date nights, more fish & chips on the beach, more sundresses and afternoons laying by the glittering water. That being said, I still can’t stop myself from day dreaming about fall fashion. Flipping through the September issues is so inspiring, but a serious threat to my bank account. Here are a few of the trends I have my eye on for autumn.
If you follow me on Twitter you may have noticed I have been obsessing over white ankle booties for a couple months. I first noticed them in InStyle on Gigi Hadid, then fell head over heels for a Dries Van Noten pair. I could in NO WAY shape or form justify a pair of $750 white glittery Go Go Dancer looking booties but I dreamed (oh how I dreamed) of another life in which I was a fabulously wealthy socialite who could trot around daily in over priced glittery boots. I finally found a comparable pair at a MUCH lower price point and placed my order before receiving a message that the boots are backordered until mid September. I’ll be counting down the days until I can throw on my trendy white leather booties with a suede mini or pair of high waisted jeans.
Obviously my Taylor Swift obsession knows no boundaries. I quickly became snake OBSESSED when Taylor reclaimed the snake (side note: I love the way Taylor takes the things other people say about her and makes them her own). It doesn’t help that this season Gucci is using the snake motif on EVERYTHING, making it pretty fab to embrace your reptilian side. Did anyone else notice Taylor’s Gucci “Blind for Love” sweatshirt in the “Look What you Made Me Do” video…I see lots of Gucci on Taylor for this album tour!
Bodysuits have been trending for a couple years now and though I’ve loved the fitted look from day one, I am more infatuated than ever. Bodysuits come at every price point, in every color and a variety of patterns. I love the look of a plunging neckline for a night out or a basic tee bodysuit for class.
Wide Legged Cropped Pants
I didn’t instantly adopt the cropped wide legged denim trend I’ve noticed my favorite fashionistas pairing with crop tops and booties, however the more I saw the trend the more curious I became. I am looking forward to pairing olive cropped wide leg jeans with white booties and a sweater for a cozy fall look to wear to class.
Patchwork is one of those things that seems to fade into and out of style like clockwork. If we were smart we’d hoard away our patchwork pieces and save them for the next time Vogue forecasts a patchwork resurgence. Alas, I have been browsing patchwork pieces in runway photos and dreaming up ways to make the look my own.
Arguably statement tees are less of a trend than they are timeless, however with recent world events political statements have become a big part of fashion. Dior’s “We should all be Feminists” tee served as inspiration for a wide range of tees on serious topics such as racism, to feminism to softer subjects like proclaiming our love for avocados.
