Every month I look forward to recalling my favorite moments, products and memories from throughout the past thirty-ish days. The beginning of May was a bit crazy for me. I really was trying to get everything together at home in Seattle before heading to California for a month. I had issue after issue selling my old car on Craigslist (ugh) and a little chaos when it came to packing and getting ready for my road trip down to Napa Valley. However, the latter half of the month has been filled with love and relaxation. Though I miss Jordan and my friends in Seattle I am so grateful for the extra time with my Dad, brother and sister in Napa Valley.
Visiting the girls I Nannied in College:
Through college I nannied for three little girls. Though there were definitely days that tried my patience I loved their family like they were part of my own (I even lived with them for a few weeks while apartment hunting). At the beginning of May I had the chance to babysit one evening after work, I had the best time catching up with two of the three girls. They are such a splendid family and I could not believe how grown up and mature the two eldest girls were.
Last Day at McNaul Ebel Nawrot & Helgren:
Half way through May I celebrated my last day working at a Seattle law firm with my coworkers. I worked with a really sweet and supportive team so I was sad to say goodbye. However, I received so much love and positivity from my coworkers I am hoping it’s not “goodbye” but rather “see you later”.
Though it has certainly taken long enough, Jordan and I are finally pulling our apartment together. Our new dining room table and chairs arrived and I am excited to host a dinner party as soon as I am back in Seattle. Hopefully I’ll have a full apartment tour post coming to the blog in the near future.
Solage Pool Day:
After arriving in Calistoga, my cousin Genevieve and I spent all day Monday at the spa. We began with a workout, spent some time in the geothermal pools, had a rosè filled lunch then spent several hours chatting and sipping mimosas in the sunshine. Best of all, as we were at the spa on a Monday it wasn’t very busy. We had the pool practically to ourselves which of course made the day feel even more luxurious. If you visit Napa Valley I cannot recommend Solage highly enough.
Adventures with Dylan and Gigi:
Over the past two weeks I’ve spent a lot of time with my little brother and sister. We have spent lots of time playing outside at the park, we have baked cookies, spent the day in an indoor trampoline warehouse, watched lots of kid movies and spent hours perusing kids books at the bookstore. When I am in Seattle I FaceTime with Dylan and Gigi but since they are so young there is really no replacement for being here in the flesh. Though they definitely resent me for making them eat vegetables I am really grateful for all of the time I have been able to spend with them. Nine and three are such sweet ages and I am happy to have this slice of spring with my favorite kiddos.
My Aunt and Uncle have a peloton indoor bike at the house I’ve been staying at. Though I’ve never really been into cycling in the past I really have enjoyed a 20-30 minute cycle class after a short jog. The peloton has a large variety of live and prerecorded classes. There are classes as short as 10 minutes with the average class at 30-45 minutes. All of the instructors I have tried are entertaining and motivational. I love that the classes are accompanied by upbeat music and that you can choose the pace you’re looking for (slow, recovery, uphill climb, moderate, etc). Cardio is one of my favorite ways to combat all of the worry and anxiety I feel on a daily basis and I’ve found I feel SO much better after an intense HIIT circuit. I am not sure if I will continue cycling when I am back in Seattle but I am certainly open to it. I love trying new workouts and pushing my body in new ways.
One bit of advice, ALWAYS HYDRATE before an intense workout especially during the warmer spring/summer months. I drink water regularly throughout the day but woke up and went for a run then ride on the peloton before drinking much water. A couple minutes after my peloton class I found myself dizzy and unable to read the messages on my phone. Knowing an inability to read was not normal I chugged a glass of water just as my hands and feet started feeling numb and tingly. I soon realized a I had a migraine coming on (read about my last horrific migraine in which I threw up on an elevator) and popped a few Advil before burying myself under my duvet in an attempt to sleep it off. I caught the migraine early and was able to recover in time to pick up my brother and sister from school but the symptoms were scary nonetheless. Everyone gets migraines for different reasons but I think mine was onset by dehydration and a lack of electrolytes (at least this time). Moral of the story, I could have prevented myself a lot of pain by remembering to drink water first thing in the morning no matter what.
What’s on my Netflix Queue: In addition to watching countless episodes of My Little Pony with my three year old sister I have loved two new shows on Netflix this month. I finished “Anne with an E” just days after the short mini series aired. Though the series takes a darker look at the original story and makes a few major plot changes I still really liked the chance to return to some of my favorite childhood characters. Additionally the show was visually very beautiful which I thought mirrored Anne’s poetic descriptions. Since the series ended SO differently than the first book I am eager to see where the second series goes if Netflix continues the series.
The second Netflix show I can’t get enough of this month is Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt season three. I love the show’s super silly humor and each character’s over the top personality. I haven’t finished the third season yet but so far I am not disappointed.
Of course I have a post coming soon with the details of what I read this month (so be on the look out readers). Take a minute and reflect on the month of May. What were your May favorites? Leave me a comment with your happiest memories, most loved products or must watch shows. I look forward to reading about your favorites (:
