Ask Me Anything: Q & As

It’s finally Friday! For many of you it’s the start of a long Memorial day weekend meaning vacations, shopping, family time, recognizing the service people in your life and other adventures. Here in Napa Valley my life has been pretty carefree and easy. I have been blogging up a storm and spending time with my family. My younger siblings generally like hanging out with me but every once in awhile Gigi likes to remind us that “we all annoy her every day”. She’s also taken to calling me the “evilest big sister” (with a smile on her face of course). Oh to be three again! I can hardly imagine it.

Thank you SO MUCH for all of your questions on my “ask me anything” post last week. You guys sent in some really intriguing questions, I had a lot of fun answering!

What are your favorite places to work in Seattle?

In college I studied at the Fremont Coffee Company almost daily. I loved that the coffee shop had different rooms and a big porch for when the weather was nice. I’ll need to find a new study spot once I start law school (:

Where are your favorite places you have traveled?

Paris, France and Florence, Italy were both nothing short of magical. I was a history major in college so visiting two cities with so much history preserved really was a thrill.  I also had a marvelous trip to the Exhuma islands with my family, boyfriend and best friend in January, it was THE BEST way to kick off 2017.

Next on my travel wish list: Greece, The Czech Republic and Iceland. I would go just about anywhere if given the opportunity though!

What is your biggest Pet Peeve?

I have a lot of little pet peeves but I definitely find people who play dumb or act ditzy for attention to be the most annoying. Super slow walkers is a close second mainly because I am a speed walker and usually am darting around everyone else on the sidewalk.

Why did you start blogging and what motivates you to keep up with it?

Long before I started blogging I kept a journal then in high school I started doing a little modeling and fell in love with creative editorial photo shoots. When I stumbled upon blogging it felt like I had been meant to be a blogger my whole life! I could combine my love of beautiful photos and words all in one place.

Blogging has generally been the easiest thing for me to stick with because I adore writing and it gives me an outlet to connect with others through writing. Blogging makes a normally solitary hobby a little less lonely. I have two pieces of advice for staying motivated: 1) Write every single day in some format whether you share it or not. Just by getting in the habit of writing daily you will become more creative and your writing will flow more naturally. 2) Don’t overthink what you should write about. Write about what you know whether that is career advice or just a journal of your day to day life. When you write about what you know and your experiences you never run out of content or get writers block.

What advice would you give to new bloggers?

Yay you started a new blog, congratulations! I honestly think the most difficult part is having the confidence to get your first post up. Now just write. Sure you should read other bloggers’ posts and interact but try not to worry too much about blogging trends and what you should write about. I think as bloggers we subconsciously write about what other people are writing about because we see how successful other bloggers are and think that copying them is the key to success. The real key to success is being yourself and offering your unique perspective! Don’t lose what makes you different, don’t water down your voice, be consistent and you will gain the relationships and readers that read you for what you share.

How did you come up with your blog name?

Prior to starting my blog my family would jokingly refer to me as “The Fairy Princess”. I originally started my blog as a way to keep up with my family and friends and liked that “Fairy Princess” encompassed two aspects of my personality (the bit that loves nature, puts flowers in her hair and is a bit boho and the girly girl with a love of fashion, all things sparkly and feminine). Now I can see my blog name is a bit cliche and unoriginal but it has come to mean so much to me I can’t imagine changing it.

What are your blog goals?

For the first few years of blogging I made a lot of goals and took blogging really seriously but over the past year I’ve thought less and less about monetizing my blog and/or blogging full time. This isn’t to say I don’t have just as much of a passion for blogging but rather I noticed myself losing my love for blogging when I started trying to treat my blog like a business. I sort of had the realization that I don’t love all of the pitching brands, advertising on social media and instagram strategy stuff-I just like writing and connecting with other people through writing. Everyone is different, you do you always always always (:

That being said my blogging goals have changed drastically over time. Now my primary goal is to create quality content I’m proud of and to continue sharing my heart in a manner that is therapeutic and hopefully relatable to others.

If you could only listen to one singer/band for the rest of your life what/who would it be?

I am not musically adventurous in the slightest and mostly listen to Taylor Swift exclusively. I’ve seen her in concert twice and I swear the first time was the most spiritual experience of my life (only half kidding).

Where is your favorite place to shop?

I cannot walk into Anthropologie without buying something though I actually like their home decor pieces more than their clothes (don’t get me wrong the clothes are lovely too). For clothing I love Nordstrom, Madewell, Club Monaco and Free People!

What does your favorite outfit consist of?

A comfortable mini dress and over the knee boots. I love the retro feel of the combination and I adore dresses because they’re easy while still looking put together.

Which fields of law are you most drawn to and why?

I’ve always felt fiery passion towards helping children in neglectful and/or abusive families. I’ve worked with kids in some capacity for as long as I can remember and I’ve always wondered how I could help the kids who need it most. I would love to do something (at the very least pro bono work) for children’s advocacy. I also am really interested in domestic violence cases. I’m hoping to intern or extern with the Northwest Justice Project at some point in my legal career.

However, I am also entering law school with an open mind. I am conscious of my incompetence, there is so much within the legal world that I know nothing about. I am open to discovering I am interested in tax law or corporate law or real estate law or whatever. I am hoping to dabble in as many opportunities as possible.

If you could only see the world in shades of one color, what color would it be?

Definitely green. I get so happy when I see the sun shining through the leaves on the trees, especially at golden hour. While I would miss all of the other colors I simply cannot imagine never seeing that shade of green again. It truly makes my heart sing!

Thank you for humoring me with all of your questions. I’ve always wanted to have an “ask me anything” post so I can successfully check that off of my blogging bucket list. Have an ever so lovely Memorial Weekend!

  1. I totally agree about the monetization of blogging! I just want to write and have a place to update friends and families… and I really dislike the looks of strange sponsored posts. Congratulations on law school, I can’t wait to read more about it! Enjoy your weekend!

  2. That is amazing advice to new bloggers! Trends come and go but what you love will always be what you love.

  3. I love reading posts like this! Anthro is definitely my favorite store too, it’s literally impossible to not spend so much money when you go there haha!

  4. Okkkayyy I am beginning to see why I had such a strong reaction to your comment that one time – we are SO similar it’s eerie. Aside from the pet peeve thing (which really sucks because my mother-in-laws favorite thing to do is play dumb, so yeah imagine that relationship at times…) – I started blogging and modeling in high school too and when I started TCM is was to get back to those things. And all of your answers on goals, getting started, and staying motivated sound exactly like me! I was doing monthly goals but they made me so miserable I stopped. If I had to see the world in one color it would be green. And I actually almost went to law school! I had the apps ready to send in, but then had back to back internships, one in law and one in counseling, and fell in love with counseling that I made a last minute decision to get my master’s in it. Working with children has always been a major passion of mine as well.

  5. Love this! A recent habit I got into was writing every day whether for myself or others. When I started my blog, I stopped writing for myself and realized how much I need it. For ME! So I’ve added that back into my routine. Thanks for sharing. Loved learning more about you!

    Keep smiling!

  6. I love how all genuine all your answers are here!! A little disappointed with the Taylor Swift(?!) answer, but you do you always always right?! Totally with you on the scaling back from treating your blog like a business thing because it’s more stressful than conducive for me. Love it!

  7. It was so interesting to read this because we are like ALOT alike. I earned my political science degree last year and minored in history. I took my LSAT and considered law school but I just can’t seem to commit to the financial burden. Do you start in the fall? I served as a child advocate (representing foster, abused and neglected children within the DCF system) with the guardian ad litem program when I lived in Florida.

    Great minds, my friend!

  8. Thanks for such a great read! It definitely changes as you get older and getting out of your head is the best advice!

  9. I love your blogging tips and reading your blogging story! I definitely gotta check out the fremont coffee shop! I just have to explore fremont more honestly hahaha

  10. Great story behind your blog name – love it! And also great choice about seeing the world in shades of green! :)

  11. Paris is one of my favourite places too! and you must go to Greece (i am greek so I’m biased lol) it’s the most beautiful place ever ;)
