Happy Friday guys! I woke up Sunday morning with a tickle in the back of my throat warning me of a cold to come. By Monday afternoon my head was pounding and I wanted nothing more than to curl up in my bed with a cup of tea. I stayed home on Tuesday and again on Wednesday because I was sneezing so much I could barely hold a conversation. I’m not normally a nap person but I slept for hours both days and Pierre the dog was happy to snuggle next to me (and drink my tea when I wasn’t looking).
My Aunt stopped by with a goodie bag to heal my ailments on Wednesday (this Rishi Turmeric Ginger Tea with fresh squeezed lemon juice is amazing) and a friend made me a nutritious dinner that night. With so much love and care I was up for work by Thursday morning. My cold is still lingering but I feel exponentially better. Still, I’ll probably do my best to relax over the last of April.
It has been a really wonderful month, honestly I can’t believe how much has been packed into 30 days. Between family time, organizing my apartment and getting a new car this month has constantly reminded me how much I have to be thankful for. Here are a few of my highlights from the month:
Mamma Mia!| To kick off the month my Mom invited me to see the off broadway performance of Mamma Mia! at the Paramount theatre. We grabbed brunch at Eve beforehand (yum) then danced our way through the entire show. I grew up listening to ABBA so Mamma Mia! has been on my “must see” list for years. It was such a fun show, I was glad I was able to experience it with my Mom.
Great Wolf Lodge with Gigi & Dylan| The second weekend of April I decided to spend some time with my two younger siblings who were visiting from California. Dylan and Gigi are 9 and 3. The energy and excitement they have for life is contagious, I can’t help but smile when I am with them. We headed to an indoor water park a few hours outside of Seattle. Though Great Wolf Lodge is exhausting as an adult, I really enjoyed seeing the two of them so happy. Gigi channeled Moana and sang the soundtrack to amp herself up to go into the wave pool and Dylan bravely embraced every water slide (backwards if he could). I love being a big sister and never take the sweet hugs and kisses of my baby siblings for granted. They are growing so fast, I wish they could stay small forever!
More Family in Seattle| My favorite aunt and uncle just purchased a home in Seattle meaning they’ll be in my backyard much more often. While I’ll miss the excuse to venture down to Napa Valley to visit I am looking forward to a summer filled with bike rides, rooftop dinner parties and Pacific Northwest hikes.
Blooms & Blossoms| Though the sun isn’t a permenant fixture in the sky here just yet, I’ve loved all of the flowers blooming all over the city. Magnolia trees outside of my apartment building have been the perfect way to brighten my day on my way out the door each morning.
Reign| My favorite teen drama is back combining two of my most loved features (Anthropologie and history…er, faux history). I’m hooked on the drama that entwines Mary Queen of Scots and look forward to snuggling up with Jordan & Pierre to tune in.
Hiking with Friends| Three things that always go well together: Hiking, good friends and Mexican food. Half way through the month Jordan and I met up with my friend from childhood, Laura, and her boyfriend for a Saturday morning hike. The day could not have been more glorious-the sun was shining and Poo Poo Point was packed. At the top we paused to snack on blueberries and chocolate dusted almonds while we were watched the para-gliders take flight. After we reached the bottom of the mountain we all agreed that Mexican food was an absolute necessity! I’m looking forward to more great weather and long days out in the sunshine this season.
Cooking at Home with Jord| I am far from a master chef but I have really learned to love cooking. Most nights I make dinner alone (or on occasion with a friend) but Jordan and I love to cook together on the weekends. I love spending tome together in our new place and enjoying the fruits of our labor afterwards is always delicious!
Breaking my Starbucks Addiction| My Starbucks habit has been going strong since before I started The Fairy Princess Diaries over four years ago. I bought coffee religiously every morning and sometimes a second latte in the afternoon too. Since I don’t get caffeine headaches without it and I’m most awake in the morning naturally I’ve joked with friends that I’m more addicted to the act of buying coffee than to coffee itself. After an unfortunate incident in which I lost my bus pass (after loading $100 onto it) I let my frustration with public transportation get the best of me. I started driving to work (obviously the new car was a big contributor there too) but couldn’t justify paying for parking downtown daily and my twice daily coffee habit. I gave up Starbucks cold turkey, well, during the work week, and vowed not to buy coffee until I’m done paying for parking every day. As silly as it sounds I really was addicted to the morning ritual of buying coffee not just the coffee itself. First world problems right? I’m still so happy I’ve finally kicked my Starbucks habit to the curb and can enjoy coffee seldomly without throwing half my salary to Howard Schultz!
Of course reading is always one of my monthly favorites so I’ve created an entire post dedicated to the books I’ve read this month. Be on the look out for my April reads on Monday if you’re looking for book reccomendations for the month of May. As always I want to hear about the best parts of your month. What made April great for you?
Have a great weekend!
