Happy Friday friends! I took off today for an extra long weekend and I could not be more excited. This afternoon Jordan and I are hopping on a plane to Salt Lake City and driving from Salt Lake City to Jackson Hole Wyoming. Growing up my brother and I spent every summer in Wyoming with my grandparents. I have so many wonderful memories listening to my Grandma read to us, walking in the badlands, attending parades, rodeos and swimming in Wyoming’s natural hot springs. As a teenager I stopped visiting my grandparents in Wyoming every summer (like all teenagers I wanted to be with my friends and my cheer team required summer practices) so I haven’t been back since I was 13. Though I won’t be visiting the small town my grandparents live in, I am quite excited for an adult taste of Wyoming!
I haven’t hosted a virtual coffee date in this space for quite some time but in honor of the debut of the Pumpkin Spice Latte I think today is the perfect day to break my coffee date hiatus. So yes, I really am drinking a pumpkin spice latte as I type this. Seattle is already in full fall mode (it’s been so gray and cool all week). Grab your own favorite caffeinated beverage and let’s catch up to kick off the long weekend!
As many of you know I love love love audible. I started listening to Audiobooks in June and I listen all day while I’m working. Of course this means I could fly through two-three books a week if I let myself but in case you aren’t in the know, audiobooks aren’t cheap. Slow clap for podcasts because they’re free and just as addicting. Up until recently the only podcast I ever listened to was Serial but I’m happy to say I’ve expanded my podcast horizons. I plan to write a full post on all of my favorite podcasts next but I want to talk about That’s so Retrograde right now. I am totally not a daily meditation-healing crystal carrying-vegan-hippie but I like to think of myself as half way there. That is I’m all about practicing mindfulness, soul searching on a Friday night and drinking green juices or whatever. Enter That’s so Retrograde a super entertaining podcast all about everything from natural makeup to juicing to new age medicine. I promise it’s SO entertaining even if you don’t believe all the hype when it comes to horoscopes (I don’t either)!
Last night my friend Nicole and I went to a Pure Barre class together. I’ve done a few different barre classes (Pure Barre, Barre3 and a few at local gyms) and I have to say Pure Barre is actually my least favorite. Don’t get me wrong I still had a great workout and I’ve gone to the class multiple times so it’s not like I hate it. Pure Barre is just so loud. The music is pumping, the instructor is screaming and I’m just like “can we have some peace and zen in here pretty please?!”. After the workout I was sipping rose and chatting with Nicole as we waited for our pasta to arrive. While I disliked the loud (in my opinion chaotic) feel to the workout, Nicole really liked the positive energy. It made me realize how different we all are in such simple but meaningful ways. On a similar note, every moment of Jordan’s existence must include music or talking or a radio show on in the background while I frequently crave silence. True life I sometimes put in headphones with no music at work so I can have silence without anyone talking to me. Lesson learned, I prefer quieter workouts no matter what the intensity level.
My favorite part about flying is definitely a solid couple hours for reading, writing, daydreaming, etc. On long flights I begrudgingly pay for $30 in flight internet but on shorter flights I am all about the excuse to unplug. I am ready to read a few of the September issues and sink my teeth into a new book. For most of the weekend I plan to pretty much ignore social media but I will still be positing photos on Instagram and hopefully Snapchat (I’m so bad at snapchat guys…
