Happy August 1st my pretty peaches! After a lazy hazy weekend I’m ready for another month of summer packed with adventures and experiences. Summer is always so busy, every weekend is filled with celebrations or weekend trips or outdoor adventures. Each summer I start to think I should transplant to California so I no longer have to struggle with squeezing a year’s worth of sunny day activities into two months (essentially 8 weekends). July was SO busy and even though August’s calendar isn’t full yet I know it will wiz by in an instant.
Yesterday Jordan and I enjoyed the last day of July by running around a local farmer’s market and making dinner for his mom. She rewarded us with the most delicious homemade blueberry pie. Yum! I very much love productive Sundays. It is so refreshing to start off the week with a clean apartment, stocked refrigerator and closet full of clean clothes. Speaking of which…Jordan and I finally gave in and sent our entire mountain of laundry to the laundromat to get washed, dried and folded. At first I felt like sending off the laundry was a waste of money but alleviating a month’s worth of laundry in a single day (impossible at home even if I dedicated an entire weekend) felt like a huge burden lifted off my shoulders. Sometimes those little splurges are sanity savers!
At the beginning of every month I like to set a few goals for myself big and small. This month I want to focus on overall wellness while soaking up all of the beautiful experiences summer has to offer. Summer has always been my favorite season so ensuring I soak up all the summer goodness is of upmost importance to this sun-lover!
1.Track my eating for the entire Month.
It wasn’t until a few weeks ago that I decided to try and revamp the way I eat. I know, I know, I’m a broken record. Since it takes 21 days to form a habit I want to ensure I not only set an intention to eat more nutritiously but that I stick to it. I have never been someone who enjoys cooking or meal planning but the past two-ish weeks have been fairly enjoyable for me. I’ve been reading healthy eating blogs like cray and stalking the Tone it Up website recipes multiple times per day. No surprise here but I already feel better. By setting a goal to track my meals (and ultimately hold myself accountable for what I eat) I hope to keep up my momentum for the rest of the month.
2. Make time for exercise at least 4 days a week.
Continuing the theme of wellness I was really great about getting to the gym (or outside and running) for the month of July, I would like to continue this healthy habit throughout August. Since the weeks of summer fill up with activities quickly it is easy to forget about exercising for days that morph into weeks at a time.
3.Celebrate Jordan’s Birthday!
Jordan turns 35 mid month and I want to make his birthday feel special without going too over the top (he doesn’t particularly love celebrating birthdays). Last year we adopted Pierre the dog so we’re going to have a difficult time topping that celebration! I don’t know what I want to do for him yet but I definitely think a meaningful gift is the way to go. If you have any fun birthday traditions or celebration ideas I would love your suggestions!
4. Have a Bonfire.
I almost can’t believe that it’s already August and I haven’t had a beach bonfire with friends yet! In the past I’ve roasted s’mores at the beach throughout May and June but this year it hasn’t happened yet. This month I want to make sure I plan an evening at the beach complete with marshmallows, chocolate and graham crackers!
5.Hike at Mt. Rainier.
I absolutely adore hiking and in Washington we have so many beautiful places to explore. Now that I have convinced Jordan to enjoy hiking as much as I do I want to show him the beautiful trails near Mt. Rainier before summer fades away. #HelloWildflowersGalore!
This month’s goals aren’t entirely revolutionary but I’m excited for the month ahead! Summer always seems like a great time to focus on living more healthfully. If you have any goals for the month of August I would love to read about them in the comments section. Hearing the goals of others always inspires me to be the best I can be as well. Cheers to a month of well being! <3
