Happy Thursday! This week has been so sunny and wonderful. I was starting to feel sad and thinking the sun would never show itself for summer in Seattle and thankfully this week surprised me with temperatures in the high 80s. Today I want to take the opportunity to essentially pour my brain out into this post. While I love well thought out posts regarding self development and pretty fashion photos I also love that part of blogging that just allows me to rant and/or ramble.
Writing for SkinnyPurse
In June I started writing for a local fashion blog called SkinnyPurse. I’ve shared a few of the pieces I’ve written that end up on the site but never formally announced my involvement. You can read my most recent piece “5 Fashion Sins to Avoid” as well as a handful of others like “5 Wardrobe Staples for the Recent College Grad“, and “5 Fashion Risks to try this Season“. Though I am just getting started I am definitely excited for the opportunity to contribute to the site.
Why my 24 year old self loves string cheese infinitely more than my 7 year old self.
It seems as if July is always the busiest month (only rivaled by December). Weddings and weekend trips fill up every weekend and with so much fun comes so much food and alcohol. Mid way through July I started feeling pretty bad about the impact all the wild rumpus was making on my body. Whoever planned bikini season at the same time as wedding food season was playing a mean joke! I’m an all or nothing sort of person and 99% of the time I eat whatever I want whenever I want. Luckily I don’t like chips or soda or oreos so I don’t eat terribly but I also have been known to polish off a tub of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream on my own.
After tracking my eating and realizing how beneficial it was to me not just to see what I was eating but to cognitively engage in the eating process I decided to continue keeping a food journal. Not sure Jordan would jump on board I asked if he would want to focus on eating healthier with me and he agreed. Sunday we shopped around at three grocery stores, planned our meals for the week and have been following this week’s plan so far.
I am well aware miracles don’t happen over night but my body is feeling so much better already. Buh-bye bloating and sluggishness! In order to stay motivated to eat extra healthy and work out consistently I’ll probably continue to mention meal planning a bit here. If you have any healthy vegetarian recipe suggestions please send them my way (this week I cooked both tofu and quinoa for the first time #ChefProdigyIntheMaking).
The MUST buy flare jeans from the NSale. Compliments for days, no joke.
As bloggers do I ordered a few great pieces from the Nordstrom sale. It’s true, you can shop the Nordstrom sale without writing a post about it (;
I picked up a Topshop Bomber jacket, a denim skirt and a pair of seventies inspired flare jeans. I’m really happy with each of the pieces I purchased but as of right now the flared denim is my absolute favorite. I wore the jeans for the first time yesterday and I kid you not received compliment after compliment. I worried flared jeans would make me look short and frumpy but I swear I felt like Karlie Kloss #LegsForDays with a pair of chunky heels. My booty didn’t look half bad either!
If you’ve been on the fence about trying out this trend I must recommend the Treasure&Bond high rise flares, they’re usually $99.00 but on sale for $59.00 and miraculously in stock in basically every size. I’m a convert! I can’t wait to get my hands on more flared denim.
Why did I ever stop going to bed at 10:00pm?
In addition to focusing on eating healthfully I’ve embraced all around wellness. For basically my entire life I have been a morning person. I naturally feel most energetic and alert starting around 6:30am and start to crave sleep around 9:30pm. Somewhere over the past year I deviated from the schedule and totally messed up my circadian rhythm. I was staying up later but not sleeping in any later meaning I started off the day exhausted and relatively grumpy. Eek!
This week I’ve forced myself into bed at 10:00pm and my body cannot thank me enough. Each morning I am happier, more alert and ready to conquer the day productively.
Countdown to Jackson Hole!
If you’ve followed here for the long haul you’ve probably realized I’m very close to my Aunt and Uncle. My Aunt is one of my best friends in the whole world and I love visiting the two of them in California. They recently purchased a vacation home in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and are in the process of building a new house (in addition to the small studio) on the land. My grandparents live in Wyoming and from ages 6-13 my brother and I spent every summer with my grandparents in Wyoming. My brother continued to visit even longer, but I haven’t visited for years.
Sunday afternoon Jordan and I booked our flights to visit over Labor Day weekend. I can’t wait! I am dying to explore Wyoming a bit as an adult and I’ve heard the outdoor activities in Jackson are incredible.
It’s exciting over here friends, but clearly you already knew that judging from my ramblings on string cheese and bedtimes. Have a wonderful Thursday!
