Happy Wednesday pretty friends! Last night I met up with two of my best friends for a cheese, baguette and berry picnic at the park. Though it was overcast it was actually pretty warm, perfect weather for a picnic. May is such a lovely month in Seattle and even lovelier in Napa Valley where my family lives. I’m embracing the fabulous weather in Seattle for the rest of the week before heading south to visit my family next week at this time. I haven’t been to California to visit my family there since Christmas. I know four months really isn’t that long to go without visiting but it feels like an eternity. I can’t wait to soak up the sunshine and enjoy a little family time.
Every month I get so excited to set a few goals for myself. Goal setting always motivates me to achieve a little more. Some of my goals this month are BIG life altering goals and some are just for fun, either way I find outlining my intentions incredibly helpful for staying on track. Do you make goals at the start of each month?
One| Spring Clean my entire Apartment
Towards the end of April I started to declutter our apartment. We resigned our lease, so another year here means 365 more days to collect extra knick-knacks and unnecessary clutter. I’ve already gone through my closet and bookshelf to donate unneeded and unworn items now I’m hoping to reorganize our office, kitchen and bedroom. It is never fun to start a new cleaning project but it always feels oh-so fulfilling after the fact!
Two| Find my Dream Job
Without going into to much detail I’m on the hunt for a new position I can stick with long term. Job hunting can be a little overwhelming so this month I’m working on polishing my resume and interview skills. If you have any interview tips, job hunting skills or salary negotiating tactics I would love to read your advice.
Three| Plan a Bridal Shower for my Mom
My Mom is getting married on July 9th and I could not be more excited for her. In addition to hoping May is the month I can find a dress for her wedding (any lavender suggestions highly appreciated) I am hoping to plan a bridal shower for her in early June. I am excited to plan an intimate get together but I’m not fully sure where to begin.
Four|Read Two new Books
Life feels so much happier when I set aside time to read for pleasure. Whether it’s a cheesy teenage romance, a biography or a expose on education in Afghanistan I daydream about getting lost in a good book. I finally picked up a new library card and cleaned off my bookshelf to make room for a few new purchases. I’m looking forward to laying in the sun and reading throughout the month of May.
Five| Go on a new Hike
I haven’t been hiking yet this Spring and I am dying to drive out of the city and explore nature. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest I’ve experienced many of the best day hikes the state has to offer but there are still so many trails I haven’t explored. Last Summer I recruited Jordan to my hiking hobby (he said he didn’t like hiking and I took that as a personal challenge) now he’s just as excited about the opportunity to embrace the beautiful weather outdoors too. I’m hoping to get up a mountain this weekend and potentially more this month.
Six| Make Breakfast at Home
I am a total breakfast person but often find myself eating breakfast on the go by grabbing something at Starbucks. Though I don’t feel too guilty when I eat Starbucks classic oatmeal on the daily, I know I am wasting money when I could have the same meal at a higher quality at home. Rather than eating breakfast at Starbucks every day I’m hoping to rotate through a few basics (scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, steel cut oats, granola and soy milk) at home to start my day.
It’s already the 4th day of May, let the Star Wars puns begin and let’s cross our fingers that this month is filled with sunshine and flowers. If you have any goals for the month of May I would love to read them. I am always so inspired by the ambitions of others.
P.S. I realized recently how airy and comfortable Madewell’s off the shoulder tops are. I loved the folktale top for my picnic and I wore the striped off the shoulder top all throughout Paris. I think Madewell is killing it for spring and summer style staples.
