The last few days of February are upon us and I’m internally freaking out because…how can it be March already? March means it’s practically Spring and Spring means I can stop curling up in my bed hiding from the cold and rain and I can actually start skipping through fields and making daisy crowns once again (a daily habit, obviously). February has been a wonderful month; I am oh-so grateful for February. Not only did I celebrate my one year anniversary with Jordan but I really started to get into the swing of things at my new job and I pursued an intellectual hobby (fashion journalism courses). I’ve shared most of the big, overarching reasons why I am happy but I don’t want to forget about some of the smaller portions of the month that made me smile too.
Comedy Club| At the beginning of the month we headed to a local comedy club for a double date and had the best time. I always forget how much I enjoy comedy clubs and I definitely want to make a point of visiting them more often. As someone who isn’t funny (with the exception of the times I am so awkward that I’m funny) I really appreciate the wit and bravery it takes to stand on a stage and make jokes. Plus, I love to laugh and eat and drink yummy drinks while I’m laughing so really the whole vibe is a win-win.
To all the Boys I’ve Loved Before| This month I read To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and I’m currently working on the sequel P.S. I Still Love You. I’ve seen both books recommended all over Blogland and I couldn’t help but wonder about the book’s premise. The main character, Lara Jean a shy 16 year old high school student, writes letters to the boys she likes and keeps them in a box under her bed as her way of coping with her unrequited love. One day, all of the letters are mysteriously mailed and she’s left to deal with the embarrassing consequences. First off, I want to ask why so many women in their mid twenties are recommending a light hearted read meant for 14 year olds? Like…literally, this book would have been right up my alley at age 13. Now I’m not judging, because I read the novel in basically two sittings over the course of 24 hours but I do have to say…there wasn’t anything unpredictable or especially exciting about it. I read it and I’m reading the sequel but I have to admit I’ll read anything (as long as it isn’t scary). I don’t want to bash on the chick lit or make anyone who recommended it feel bad, I’m just sort of unsure what makes this book special? Or is that why we love it? It’s a fun, mindless, quick read that leaves us feeling nostalgic of our own high school romances? If that’s the case I’m on the same page. I can’t say this series is any better than any other typical teen romance but it certainly has been a fun way to spend my lunch break at work. If you’ve read the book what are your thoughts?
A Cleaner Apartment| With a full time job, commitment to blogging 4-5 days a week and full time schedule of graduate level classes I’m pulled in five hundred different directions. If I’m running around like a crazy woman, Jordan is legit insane, I’m telling you the man never sleeps (#Cray). Over the past few months I’ve realized how little I can focus on blogging, studying or really anything when our apartment is a disaster. I am by no means a neat freak but dishes in the sink, a grimy bathtub and an unmade bed distract from blog posts and essays and even from taking Pierre on a walk. We made the executive decision to hire a cleaner once a week for our apartment and I SWEAR it is the best investment in our relationship and secular success. I know hiring a cleaner is a total luxury (I never had one growing up and always thought my friends that did were “rich”, haha) but I can forgo eating out a few times a month or a pair of new shoes or two for the peace of mind. Though it’s just once a week it’s a big sanity saver. If you’re burning the candle at both ends thinking “If my significant other leaves another dirty dish on the counter I’m going to BURN DOWN THIS APARTMENT” a weekly (or monthly) cleaning service might be a good solution for you too. Seriously, life changing!
A Photo Adventure with Melissa Shaw| One of my goals for February was to have professional photos taken of Pierre, Jordan and I. To answer the question I keep receiving…no we are not engaged, hehe, trust me I wouldn’t be secretive about it! I’m just the cray cray girlfriend who made her boyfriend get professional photos with her because I’m a photo freak (I have been since high school when I took kissy photos kissing my boyfriend at the the time in a river). I embrace my love of photos even if most people save photos for engagements and other special occasions, I like to document our love and memories. We met Melissa, a photographer I’ve been hoping to work with for years, at Pike Place and then adventured to Lincoln Park in West Seattle. Not only was Melissa a complete joy to work with, but I am oh-so in love with the results. I only have a sneak peek look at our shoot so far, but I know I’m going to be impressed with the final images. I already can’t wait to share more mushy gushy love photos with you guys <3
Claire Bear’s 24th Birthday Celebration| This month my first college roommate turned one of my bffs turned 24. Obviously a champagne girls’ night was in order followed by a mid day happy hour at Boka, a cute restaurant and bar downtown. Claire is one of the special people you meet that cannot be replaced, she dances to the beat of her own drum and always looks positively fabulous doing it. I am so glad I met Claire for so many reasons, she’s a “for life” friend and it was wonderful to be part of celebrating 24 years of Claire Sass.
On my Shopping Radar| With Paris, London and New York’s runways all over the fashion news, is it even possible not to think about shopping all month long?! I’ve been a total impulse shopper this month splurging on not one but three pairs of shoes I’ve been coveting (there are worst addictions…right?!). Still, loving fashion is a curse, I can’t stop dreaming about the Tory Burch Robinson (seriously that shade of green is my favorite color, is that a sign?), these Lennon Sneakers (perfect for jaunting around town) or this super springy dress. Though I’m attempting to fast from shopping in March in order to save a bit of money for shopping in Paris I still want to hear about what you want to add to your Spring wardrobe.
What have been some of your favorites this month? Though I do love the month of love, I am SO looking forward to Spring and all of the sunshine and warmer weather I’m hoping it will bring.
