Feeling drab can put a downer on even the best day (or night) out. The most confident girls have days they feel a bit “blah”, even Taylor Swift feels less than glamorous on occasion, I’m sure of it! My natural tendency when frizzy hair or dry skin or cellulite strikes is to resort to a night of Netflix in bed with sweatpants and a messy bun. I’m not much of a night person to begin with so I’ll use basically any excuse to stay in rather than go out. Over the years I’ve realized opting to miss out on the fun due to everyday insecurities is the absolute worst thing I could do. Don’t let your insecurities win! Rather than resorting to pajamas and an evening solo, check out a few quick beauty tips and confidence boosters to up the glam-factor quickly on those drab beauty days. Though I can be a bit of an introvert I’m usually grateful I pulled myself together and got out of the house.
Swipe on a BOLD lip color:
After a long week at the office or a day of traveling your skin can feel dull, and dry. After applying your favorite moisturizer, give yourself a quick spa-like lip treatment. First, mix coconut oil and a pinch of brown sugar to exfoliate dry lips. Scrub for 15 seconds before wiping away excess sugar. Next, add a bit of lip balm and a bold lip color (I prefer NARS Train Bleu) to add instant color to your face. You’ll instantly look more lively and less corpse like.
Try an Awakening Coffee Face Mask:
Wake up your skin the same way you break up your brain each morning, with coffee! My favorite coffee mask (Cup O’ Coffee Face and Body Mask) smells just like my favorite coffee shop. The mask exfoliates, and lightly moisturizes while zapping dull skin awake! After allowing the mask to sit for 5-10 minutes, rinse and add a hydrating serum (I love Quench) before your favorite moisturizer and a touch of blush. For tired eyes apply a light layer of concealer and head out the door feeling like you just popped out of the spa.
Fuel up to Wake up your Brain & your Skin:
Before reaching for (another) cup of coffee, sip a glass of water and treat your body with the nutrients it deserves. Feeling “blah” often stems from fueling our bodies with junk. Dehydration is common when you’re constantly stocking up on Peppermint Mochas and forgetting to consume the water your body needs to function. Add a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar or squeeze of lemon to your water for an extra burst of energy then feed yourself! A spinach salad with raspberries, avocado and feta cheese is a great, light pick-me-up meal. If you’re craving more substance opt for a poached egg on avocado toast or homemade protein smoothie. Look in the mirror after a healthy, balanced meal. I bet you’re glowing and ready to conquer the town.
“Intention-alize” the Messy :
Make your messy bun look intentional with a smoky eye and edgy pair of leather leggings with an oversized cardigan or silky tank. Messy hair and yoga pants looks like your heading home from the gym, messy hair with bold makeup and a sexy slice of leather looks like you’re going for that “I woke up like this” look. Channel your inner off-duty model by twisting tousled (possibly greasy) hair into a high messy bun, smudge your eyeliner and embody cool-girl chic all night long. If Cara Delvigne can pull it off, why can’t you?
Opt for Dramatic Lashes:
One of my favorite ways to add glamour and drama to any look is with a set of false lashes. Tired eyes look alert and pretty with a simple set of fake eyelashes even if the only other makeup you apply is a touch of eyeliner. Though SEPHORA and MAC lashes are some of my favorites, you don’t need to head to the mall for this quick makeup upgrade. A pair of false lashes from the drugstore closest to your house will certainly do and there’s no need to spend more than $7 or $8 for this beauty trick.
Of course dry shampoo is a MUST when your social schedule simply won’t allow for a full shower and at-home blow out and a quick set of squats and crunches will help you feel lighter and tighter before throwing on a crop top. No one has to know you’re rocking third day hair or that you’ve skipped the gym (for the past two weeks). The holidays are filled with opportunities for celebrating and socializing, don’t skip out just because of an off-day.
If all else fails and you’re just not feeling bar-hopping in a teeny-tiny dress in the below freezing temperatures ask your besties if they’re opposed to a night in. At least if you’re watching Netflix wearing ripped sweatpants in bed, you can have your bestie by your side. Order a pizza and grab a bottle of bubbly to make the night feel less “blah”. Just because you aren’t feeling you’re hottest doesn’t mean you have to miss out on all the fun!
