I swear I am cursed. Every time I travel I either get sick or my skin is completely wacky. My body must be extra sensitive to the tight quarters and recirculated air. Whenever I fly I put on tons of lotion before and after the flight and I never forget lip balm for during the trip. Still, it’s a miracle if my skin feels moisturized after even a short flight. After traveling I’m practically reptillian. Just call me Queen of the Lizards because my skin is flaky and itchy and irritated.
Normally after a flight I throw on a little extra moisturizer or the Kate Somerville Quench serum and call it good, but this time the contrast in humidity between Seattle and Napa Valley combined with traveling and the cold weather really got to me. My nose was so flaky I could have sworn I was molting. I tried the Quench mask, and though I normally rave about Kate Somerville…it just wasn’t doing the trick.
When Caroline and I had our blogger date we stumbled into Lush. Though I’ve always just loved the smell of Lush, admittedly I had never purchased products beside bath bombs at the store. I was immediately drawn to the display of fresh, organic masks on display just inside the door. They all looked so pretty and smelled so delicious I had no idea where to begin. Luckily the nice sales associate was super knowledgeable and more than willing to help Caroline and I test a few of the masks on our hands in the store. In the end I settled on the fresh Oatfix Mask (it must be stored in the refrigerator which is why it is only available in stores) and the Cup O’ Coffee mask.
That night I gave myself a mini at home spa treatment with the Oatfix Mask. It goes on a little “gloppy” but felt and smelled wonderful. After rinsing my skin thoroughly I applied moisturizer and could not believe how hydrated my skin felt. The next morning I used the Cup O’ Coffee mask (which smells invigorating by the way) and felt like I had just received the best facial. My dry reptile skin was completely gone. No more itching! No more flaking! I felt like a real human again…rejoice!
Of course I made Jordan try out my new beauty routine with me when he arrived to visit that weekend. As he pointed out, I love making my boyfriend participate in stereotypically feminine activities. I think he just says that because our bed has a princess canopy and the theme of our living room is unicorn garden…but whose to say really? Of course he also adored the after effects of both Lush masks.
My Suggested Dry Skin Regimen
- Apply Oatfix Mask to clean, dry skin. Allow to sit for 5-10 minutes before rinsing off with a washcloth.
- Apply Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizer.
- Give yourself some proper beauty sleep.
- Wake up bright and early to apply the Cup O’ Coffee Moisturizer. Allow to sit for 5-10 minutes before rinsing off with a washcloth.
- Apply Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizer (or your favorite moisturizer).
Prepare for smooth, supple, hydrated skin all day long! Brace yourself for skin compliments, seriously though…my Aunt told me my skin looked radiant & better than she’d ever seen it! I obviously can’t attribute all of those accolades to these two masks but I definitely think the products played a role.
Of course, as you must remember to do with all beauty treatments-take an awkward selfie while self-pampering & don’t forget to upload it to the internet for the world wide web to view.
I’ve been repeating the whole routine twice a week since purchasing the masks. I definitely think once a week is plenty for the average person, I’m just addicted to the post spa feeling. Keep in mind the Oatfix fresh mask stays good for roughly four weeks but MUST be kept refrigerated.
Overall I really loved the results with these masks and I definitely can see myself purchasing the products again. Both masks were super affordable (I spent around $20 total) and I love that they are organic. Have you tried any masks from Lush before? I want to try more now that I know I love these two so much! Do you have any favorite products for dry skin? I love hearing new suggestions.
