Now that I’m no longer in school, Sunday has become one of my favorite days of the week. I used to absoloutely dread Sundays. I would push off all of my homework for the weekend so I’d spend all day at home or in a coffee shop studying (and most likely panicking about Monday). Since graduating I have reclaimed my Sundays, though I often still spend time in coffee shops the experience is much more leisurely.
Yesterday morning I met my gorgeous best friend, Nicole, to take a few head shots of her for her acting portfolio. Lucky Nicole, she has the vocal range of a Disney Princess. After shooting her head shots against a variety of textured back drops we decided to play in the leaves while sipping pumpkin spice lattes of course.
Drinking pumpkin spice lattes, tossing leaves in the air and giggling about Taylor Swift made us pretty “basic“, I guess I don’t really mind.
Sundays are lovely, however, I still haven’t managed to fall for Mondays in the same manner. I have a few Monday essentials that are helpful for keeping a positive attitude and avoiding sluggishness during the day.
1.Coffee (make it a venti): As Carrie Bradshaw put it “shall we get more coffee, or shall we get guns and kill ourselves?” I am a caffeine addict (with no plans of recovering). Monday morning calls for lots of coffee to make the world seem bright and cheerful again.
2. A Health Breakfast: Starting off your Monday with something nutritious like oatmeal with raspberries (my go-to breakfast), a poached egg on avocado toast, or even just a piece of fruit, starts you off right for the week. Avoid caffeine headaches, mid day fatigue and crazy sugar cravings by eating a healthy meal early on in the day.
3. Fresh Air: Starting off my day I like to get a little fresh air to awaken my brain. On Mondays I find this sort of stimulation even more important. Ease back into the weak with a sense of clarity by taking a morning walk or jog if possible.
4. At Home Spa Treatment: Monday evening be sure to exfoliate, give yourself a face mask and paint your nails while it sits. Often, I wake up Monday morning and my skin feels so neglected. I tend to wear more makeup on the weekend so by Monday my face wants a little pampering. I love Kate Somerville exfoilikate and clearing mask but like to switch it up with other products or a honey face mask as well.
5. A Comfortable Outfit: The force top from Gentle Fawn, a pair of walkable flats and denim is an easy way to feel comfortable (and still look cute) on a Monday. This look easily carries over from playing in the leaves and cartwheeling to taking notes in class, a casual office, or working at a coffee shop. For chilly weather throw on a super cozy poncho or cardi.
What are your essentials for a happy and productive Monday? Do you hit the gym first thing in the morning? Make plans with your bestie for dinner? Call in sick and reason “who needs Mondays anyway”? I’d love to hear all about your weekend and of course your Monday essentials!
P.S. Who else has been taking Helene’s Quit Your Job to Blog course? Helene has created such a beneficial resource for new or experienced bloggers. Whether you actually want to quit your job (or just want to improve your blog and make a little extra money) I recommend enrolling in the course.
***Disclaimer: The top I am wearing was received as a gift from Gentle Fawn, however all opinions are my own. I pinky swear.
