A few weeks ago I shared my hair “journey” with you, I mentioned I have made a lot of hair mistakes, and it’s true! Due to my hair mistakes in the past I am obsessed with keeping my hair healthy now. Since I bleach and blow dry and curl my hair often, the best way to keep my hair healthy is with frequent trims (and deep conditioning treatments). The downfall? I love having long mermaid hair and it isn’t possible to grow my hair out that long naturally and still keep it healthy.
Clip-in extensions to the rescue!
Irresistible Me extensions have been a great way for me to occasionally style my hair like a Disney Princess mermaid while still keeping my natural hair healthy. I ordered the 18″ 200g Royal Remy extensions in honey blonde, I think they are the perfect match and add so much length and volume to my hair.
Extensions are often misunderstood. I know when I bought my first pair of clip-in extensions I was clueless. I am nowhere near a hair expert but I have learned a lot more about extensions over the past few years. My experience has taught me you do NOT want to skimp on extension quality. You can feel the difference when you are wearing synthetic hair or poorly made extensions and trust me, no one wants itchy extensions strapped to their scalp all day.
Clip-In Extensions Frequently Asked Questions
How do I make extensions look natural?
The best way to make your extensions look natural is by ordering the correct length and color for your hair. Irresistible Me offers a useful video for selecting a color. Initially I was unsure whether or not to order honey blonde or platinum blonde (I thought the honey blonde would look far too strawberry). I messaged Irresistible Me and they were so great about helping me through the selection process. As you can see from the photos my extensions are literally a perfect match.
In terms of styling I find extensions work best for curly or wavy looks. I always clip my extensions in in layers starting from the bottom of my scalp and working up towards my roots. I prefer soft, beachy waves and personally think this style blends the extensions most seamlessly. This video from Irresistible Me demonstrates How to blend clip-in Extensions in Straight Hair.
Which length should I buy?
The length you choose depends on the difference you would like to see. I recommend only adding a few inches for the most natural look, however Irresistible Me extensions are thick enough and high enough quality that you really can add a substantial amount of length.
Check out this guide on extension lengths for a visual breakdown that is easy to understand.
Can extensions be dyed to match my hair color?
Remy extensions can be dyed to match your hair color and in fact I’ve had my hair dresser dye extensions for me in the past. You might feel awkward walking into the salon with a giant bag of fake hair but I guarantee your hairdresser isn’t judging too harshly! Talk to your stylist before hand to determine pricing and allot enough time to add some color to your extensions-most stylists will be happy to offer the service as long as they have enough time booked out beforehand.
Do you wash your hair extensions?
I definitely recommend washing your hair extensions though it is not necessary to wash them as often as your natural hair (even if you are wearing them every day). I recommend washing your extensions every 10ish wears depending on how active you are when you wear them. If your extensions look gross or dirty (or smell bad) by all means, wash them! I usually let my extensions lay out to air dry for a day or two rather than blow drying them and causing additional heat damage. Check out this Youtube video on How To Wash Hair Extensions (note she recommends not to wash them often!)
How do extensions work with ombre hair?
The great part about using extensions is that the Irresistible Me colors are multi-dimensional making them suitable for a range of hair colors. This means extensions often work well with ombre hair. You can always dye the extensions to match your ombre coloring, however most often you won’t have to. I recommend purchasing extensions in the color that matches your ends (not your roots) and clipping them throughout the lower layers of your scalp/hair. The extensions should easily blend with your ombre.
What is the difference between Remy and Non-Remy extensions?
When shopping for hair extensions you will often see the terms “Remy” and “Non-Remy” tossed around. For those who have not ordered extensions before these terms can add to the confusion. Simply put, Remy hair is the highest quality human hair because the cuticles are kept intact rather than stripped. This makes Remy extensions exceptionally soft, shiny and luxurious feeling (trust me they’re way softer than my natural hair).
Non-Remy extensions can be a variety of compositions. Real and synthetic hair are often sold in clip-in extensions. Hair extensions made from human hair can be styled in the same way your natural hair can (dyed, curled, washed, straightened, etc). Synthetic extensions often cannot be exposed to heat (they will melt). Keep in mind, though Remy extensions can be styled like your natural hair they also become damaged from heat styling just as natural hair does.

I hope I was able to answer some of your questions about clip-in hair extensions. I am not a hair guru at all but I did learn a few great tips working at a hair salon in high school and I love to share the knowledge with those of you who are riding the Hair Struggle Bus with me.
