Imagine the perfect warm October day, the sun is shining, a soft cool breeze ruffles the leaves and the smell of pumpkin everything is everywhere! Yesterday was as close to an October fairytale as a girl could possibly hope for. Jordan, Pierre and I headed to Sumner with my Mom to explore a few cute little pumpkin patches and embrace the gorgeous weather.
The first pumpkin patch we visited (actually pictured second) was much more “commercialized”, it offered roasted corn, a pumpkin toss and giant spiders made out of hay to pose with. There were children in costumes running around everywhere and every type of gourd you could imagine for sale. Naturally I snagged a few to adorn our house for Fall. The second pumpkin patch (pictured first) was nestled off on its own. It was so empty which added to how beautiful and rustic it felt, I fell in love. The two dogs that lived there (a golden lab and an Australian Shepherd) kept running up to us with an old piece of corn so we would play fetch with them. The corn had clearly seen its share of dog slobber but the pumpkin patch dogs were so cute…we couldn’t resist! Pierre had the best time chasing after the big dogs through the field of pumpkins. He didn’t even realize they were chasing corn, he just was happy to run free through a giant field (#CityDog).
After our pumpkin patch adventures we headed back to my Mom’s house to make chocolate chip cookies, decorate her house for fall and carve our pumpkins. I’m not much of an artist but who can resist the allure of ooey gooey pumpkin on their skin? The whole day felt like a portrait of the perfect October day. If this weekend was any sort of foreshadowing for the rest of the month, it’s definitely going to be a great one!
Tell me, how was your first weekend of October?
