I usually set monthly goals (see my goals for July and August) but decided to take a break for the month of September. My life unknowingly shifted a bit in September and I decided it was better for my “wellness” to take a month to “just be”. Of course I didn’t stumble through September aimlessly without purpose but I tried to set goals each day without an overarching vision for the month. It was nice to have a little bit of a refresher, but I am ready to live intentionally for my favorite month of the year. Hello October!
The national writing challenge doesn’t officially start until November 1st, but as Chelsea pointed out in her recent blog post, why wait to start working until November? I’ve been working on the same novel for what feels like forever. Writing 5 days a week in October will give me a jump start on NaNoWriMo and hopefully put me that much closer to completing the first draft of my novel.
Participate in a Halloween Festivity each week or weekend
Halloween is my all time favorite holiday (a big part of the reason why I love October so much) and lately the months have been flying by so fast. I know if I don’t set goals to really enjoy all of the fun Halloween activities offered throughout the month October will disappear and I’ll be so sad I missed it all. I want to go to a pumpkin patch, host a “haunted dinner”, carve pumpkins, bake pumpkin bread or cookies, visit a haunted house, and of course dress up for Halloween. I’m still trying to figure out what to dress Pierre as for Halloween, any suggestions?
Focus on Wellness
October is always the month I really crack down on healthy habits (revealing Halloween costumes are always motivating) and this year is no exception. For each week of October I will set specific, measurable healthy living and workout goals for the next 7 days. I think having weekly goals centered around wellness will keep me more motivated than a monthly goal (that could become stagnant). Some of the goals I am thinking of incorporating are walk 10,000 steps everyday, go on a new hike, run 5 days in a row, go to the gym 4 days a week, drink 8 glasses of water a day, etc. I’m running another half marathon on Halloween which serves as a bit of “get out of bed and run” motivation as well.
Create a Media Kit for my Blog
I’ve been putting off creating a new visually appealing media kit for months. Unless I make it a goal I know I’ll still be waiting on a whisk of inspiration to create one at the beginning of next October. Yay blog goals!
Read at least three New Books
The past few months I have been reading often, however I’ve really only focused on career oriented books. I love books about writing, PR and marketing but my brain needs a little break. I haven’t read a novel over the past few months and it makes me really sad. I believe one of the best ways to improve your writing is by reading great writing, to prep for NaNoWriMo I need a few inspiration novels right?
Do you have any goals for October? Please share, I love reading about the things you’re driven to do! Have a great weekend!
