Retinol Hyaluronic Acid, does it work?

When it comes to beauty my primary concern is skincare. Most days I swipe on mascara and eyeliner and call it good in terms of makeup; I don’t know how to properly apply face makeup and I probably never will (I do love having my makeup done at Sephora every now and then though). Though I’m only 23 I believe the earlier you can start taking care of your skin the better. I was pretty awful to my skin in the past (tanning, eek) so I have since vowed to take better care of my skin. I want healthy skin not just to look youthful but to stay healthy!

I am proud to say I have been an SPF addict this entire summer. This is the first year I’m not walking out of summer with a sun kissed Victoria’s Secret Angel glow but thinking about the long term consequences of sun exposure I’m not sad…I am proud. I know that I didn’t add to the aging process (well, except for the getting older part) or engage in risky skin harming cancer-causing behavior. I’m pretty happy about it.

Most mornings I use the Kate Somerville Quench serum before applying Shiseido Urban Environment UV Protection Cream. I’ve been loving the results because Shiseido doesn’t cause my pores to clog or my skin to break out like so many other facial sunscreens.

I read an article somewhere about habits you should adopt into your skincare routine in your twenties. Most of the habits were pretty obvious: Washing off face makeup before bed, wearing sunscreen, drinking water, etc. but a tip regarding retinol serums stood out to me. Retinol anything is sort of a buzz word in the beauty world, but as someone who isn’t exactly a beauty guru I hadn’t looked into any serums. After a quick glance at the article I decided to look up retinol and it’s benefits for skin.

Essentially, retinol is Vitamin A, an antioxidant that can interrupt the damage process from free radicals and assist in anti-aging, improve skin discoloration, and help manage acne. Since the benefits seemed legit I searched for a retinol serum on Amazon and decided to try the Body Merry Retinol Serum. I was amazed the serum was so inexpensive (less than $15) and had consistently positive reviews after over 1,000 ratings.

When my serum arrived, literally ONE day after I ordered it on Amazon (CRAZY), I began applying the retinol hyaluronic acid green tea serum nightly prior to applying lotion before bed.

Left| July 20th before using retinol serum Right| August 24th after using retinol serum daily for roughly one month.

After using the retinol serum for just over a month I want to share my results. I tried my best to take photos that showed my skin in the same conditions/lighting/etc. As you can see I clearly have a little under eye makeup smeared from the shower in the before pictures so the serum has nothing to do with brighter under eye skin- that’s just a washcloth and Kate Somerville Gentle Daily Wash. Also, just to be 100% transparent I am wearing eyeliner and mascara in the after pictures since I am not fresh out the shower as I was in the before pictures.

Despite the slight differences in lighting I think it is pretty obvious that the retinol serum has made a difference! I really did not know what to expect when I bought this product, this post is not sponsored in any way (no free products for me, sadly) but I was so interested and impressed with the results I thought it would be beneficial to share. Please try not judge based on how awkward these close-up skin selfies are and instead focus on the real results!

I never believe the claims beauty products make, and I really didn’t think there was a way to combat skin damage that had already occurred…but I was wrong. The Body Merry Retinol Serum really surprised me (in a good way)! I am fascinated by the amazing results and will definitely be incorporating this product into my skincare and beauty routine long term.  For more information on this retinol serum I strongly recommend checking out the Body Merry website for specific product details, even though this retinol treatment has worked well for me I can’t promise it is the best choice for you. Make sure you read the ingredients and do a little research of your own to make sure it’s the right daily retinol serum for your skin.

Have you used a retinol product before? How were the results? Are you as amazed as I am by the product?

P.S. One day left to enter the Instagram Loop Giveaway for a Macbook Pro! If you’ve already entered, Good luck! May the odds be in your favor (:

  1. I’m proud of you too with your commitment to SPF this summer! I think pale is pretty too, or at least that’s what I tell myself (I’ve stopped tanning after my dad was diagnosed with skin cancer a few years ago)! You are absolutely glowing and I’m so glad that you found a product that you love. Thanks for sharing!

  2. Jordyn your skin is gorgeous anyway! But it looks so healthy in the after pictures :) I had a little look on amazon and it has such great reviews, I might have to pop it in my basket! I’m always looking for the next best thing for my skin (my is terrible so anything that can help…) Thanks for the fab in depth review!

  3. I want, I want!! Only this year have I started getting more serious about skincare – I’ve actually started looking at different serums, but definitely have not found one that’s this affordable while still providing effectiveness. Going to Amazon…
