I know we still have a few days of July left (and don’t worry I’m not discounting them) but I want to recap my goals for July and discuss my August goals now so I can hit the ground running on Saturday August 1st. I don’t even know where July went, gone are the long lazy hazy days of Summer. I flew to California, started a new job and suddenly July was just over. I know August is going to go by just as fast and I am already mourning the end of summer. It can’t be nearly over already can it?
I achieved my July goals relatively well. I won’t go into the details of each specific goal as not to bore you but I did manage to run 17 times in July (not quite 20 but not so bad), wear sunscreen every day, I did a bridge every day, I surprised someone, I read 2 career books (Leave Your Mark & Nice Girls Don’t Get the Corner Office) and set up my home office. I didn’t play tennis as many times as I would have liked nor did Jordan and I finish building our dining room table. Our free time just dissipated!
1. Run 2 Races!
My goal is still to run 12 races in 12 months. I would like to run 2 more races in August.
2. Earn $X Freelance Writing
Earlier this month I started a new job, but what I’ve failed to mention is that my “new job” is more like 3 new jobs because I’ve been contracted as a freelance writer/marketer/content creator for several companies. It’s been an exciting but difficult balance. I think one of the best ways to monitor how much I’m working and if it is working well is with a monetary goal. I don’t want to disclose the exact amount I want to earn because I feel like that is pretty tacky BUT just know I do have a number in mind and I am working towards it. Though I am not a numbers person I think having a reasonable number in sight will help motivate me to stay on track. Okay enough about money, let’s talk about fairy dust and eskimo kisses.
3. Give Jordan the best birthday ever!
August 17th is Jordan’s birthday and I want to celebrate in the happiest way possible. Jordan didn’t grow up celebrating birthdays and thus really isn’t that into celebrating now but I still want to make the occasion memorable. If you have any super special birthday surprise ideas send them my way!
4. Read 2 more Career Development books.
I’m trying to teach myself a lot over here and I’ve found these career focused books both helpful and entertaining. I know “Quiet” will be my first read, I’m open to suggestions for the next!
5. Show 5 obvious “Proofs of Love”.
I read “The Happiness Project” a few years back and a quote stuck with me, it stated “There is no love, only proofs of love”. It really resonated with me because even though we all know love is deeper than the actions that demonstrate our love we can’t really prove it without those. This month I want to focus on showing the people I care about how much I love them. It can be a random letter, spontaneous flowers, anything really. I want to focus on demonstrating my love in 5 obvious ways (but obviously I’ll be showing my love everyday hopefully).
6. Find the perfect outfit for the Taylor Swift Concert!
I’m seeing Taylor Swift with my Aunt, Uncle and Cousin in San Diego this month. I am so excited I really can’t articulate it. I want to find the perfect outfit for the concert just in case Taylor decides to pull me on stage as her guest star you know?
7. Add decorations to our Bedroom.
Why is curating the perfect relaxing space for sleeping and snuggling so overwhelming?! I don’t want to go over the top decorating the room (I want to keep a calm and serene feeling) but I do want a bit of life to spruce the place up.
8. Wear Sunscreen every single day!
I carried this goal over from July as a reminder. I have become really serious about healthy skin so wearing sunscreen daily is important to me.
9. Go to Yoga 4 times.
I loved challenging myself to do a bridge every day last month. I really noticed the difference in my lower back. I want to continue stretching daily at home but also encourage myself to get to yoga every so often. I’m honestly not a die hard fan of any workout that isn’t running so aiming to go to yoga even once a week is a big commitment for me. Hopefully my friend Kaija will let me tag along with her! (:
10. Workout 4 days a week every week of the month.
Last month I put a lot of emphasis on running, which was great because I love running, however this month I want to switch it up a bit. I found myself feeling obligated to run even when I wanted to hit the stair machine or head to yoga. This month I just want to workout consistently whether it is hiking, running, barre, yoga, etc.
Do you have any goals for August? I would love to hear about them!
