Friday evening after missing our initial flight into Santa Rosa (long story) we caught a rerouted flight to San Francisco and arrived in Napa late Friday night. I was so excited to see Genevieve I practically jumped into her arms the moment I saw her. We spent Friday night sipping bubbly and catching up before drifting off the sleep.
Saturday we celebrated the 4th of July with a party at my Aunt and Uncle’s house. There is a super cute 4th of July parade in Calistoga and my family lives right on the parade route. We all set up chairs and sipped champagne as we watched the festive floats go by. My Aunt was even in the parade dressed as Supergirl. She was the best little patriotic Supergirl I’ve ever seen.
We spent the rest of the day playing cards and eating (so much eating) before heading to the fairgrounds in the evening. 4th of July really just represented a lot of eating if we are being honest. Ice cream bars, oatmeal in a jar, champagne, french fries, veggie burgers, more champagne, pasta salad…I kept eating and eating. I ate so much that by 9:30am I passed out and missed the fireworks. This is typical Jordyn behavior. If I have to stay awake for something there is a 99% chance it will be the day I start dozing off at 7:30pm, every New Year’s Eve and 4th of July it’s the same sad story. Luckily I always get plenty of beauty sleep.
Sunday morning we grabbed breakfast at Solbar and checked into a local spa called Solage. I am very pro spa and look for any possible excuse to be rubbed and pampered. Genevieve, Jordan, Hennie (a german exchange student my Aunt and Uncle are hosting) and I spent some time giggling and gossiping in the warm mineral pools before our massages. As always I drooled on the head cradle and my masseuse kindly didn’t call me out on my embarrassing behavior. I really do believe in the power of a massage-not only do they feel great but I really let go and have a sense clarity while I am thinking! It’s the perfect excuse to have a spa day each week right? (;
After lunch and more sunbathing at the spa we headed back to San Francisco to catch our flight back to Seattle. The drive through wine country always amazes me. It is so stunningly beautiful I can’t stop staring out the window just gawking! I swear Calistoga is a little slice of heaven on earth. I am SO glad my family took up residence so I have an excuse to escape to Napa Valley so often. I’m already planning all of my upcoming visits this fall.
How was your 4th of July? Did you spend it with family or friends? What was your favorite part?
