Yesterday was the last day at my current job (well…not current anymore) and the day before heading off to visit my family in Napa Valley for the fourth of July weekend. To celebrate completing a contract, signing a new one and of course the 4th I decided a little retail therapy was in order. Last night I begged Jordan to run downtown to Nordstrom with me. I don’t own any sunglasses and haven’t for years (seriously I know I’m ridiculous) and figured I would treat myself to a pair before burning my eyes out by the pool in Calistoga. Jordan is even more of a shopping addict than me (I’m the voice of reason out of the two of us! Scary!) so he coerced me to wander into Club Monaco as well.
Jordan didn’t really find anything he wanted at Club Monaco (thank God because his clothes are already taking over our apartment) but I couldn’t resist this little white wrap dress with a teeny tiny cut out. If we’re being real I feel like Taylor Swift wearing it and if you know me you know that is the ULTIMATE compliment I could receive. I once let a hair stylist give me bangs because she told me they would make me look like Taylor Swift. Needless to say I spent the next 6 months discovering creative ways to pin and braid back my wannabe Taylor-esque hairstyle that was actually more reminiscent of a 5 year old (or a bird). Anyway back to Club Monaco…I couldn’t resist the dress. I thought it was going to be $99 (on sale) which was a lot for an impulse buy but I loved the frock so much I figured I would treat myself. To my pleasant surprise when I went to purchase it it came to a whopping $48…yee! I felt like I was practically stealing it!
Then at Nordstrom I finally found a pair of sunglasses that look decent (even good?) on my face. I was so thrilled because I have the worst relationship with sunglass shopping. Honestly, my nose is just wide and therefore most styles look bad on my face. Whenever I see a photo of myself in sunglasses I am cringing on the inside and the photos just make me more self conscious of my nose! When I’m not wearing sunglasses I’ve accepted my wide nose. I’ve even been that dorky girl who googled “models and actresses with big noses” to make myself feel better (#SorryNotSorry). If Gieselle and Sarah Jessica Parker are in the big-nosed club with me I’m not in bad company. Let’s just pretend big noses aren’t the only commonalities we share (:
Tory Burch wins a prize once again! I know Tory Burch is the ultimate Basic 20-something brand but I really do love the line. I am never disappointed with any of my Tory products (don’t even get me started on my mad obsession for Tory Burch riding boots). The same can be said for my new aviators ; I love them! I can’t wait to wear them all summer long. If aviators aren’t your thing there were so many other cute frames as well. Aesthetically I love all the oversized cat-eye 60’s supermodel inspired frames (Brigitte Bardot is my ultimate girl crush) but sadly they don’t sit well on my nose or face.
My Picks (& a few similar styles):
Now I’m headed to Napa Valley for the weekend to visit my lovely family there and soak up some sunshine! My cousin Genevieve (who I lived with for four months in Nova Scotia) will be there too and I am FREAKING out because I have missed her so much and want nothing more than to snuggle her. She is one of my favorite people in the whole world and honestly thinking about being with her again in just a few hours is actually making me tear up (which may be a sign that I need therapy actually). Have a wonderful Fourth of July weekend lovelies! Follow me on Instagram or Snapchat (@fairyprincessj) for more of my little adventures in California <3
