Thursday night around 11:00pm Jordan and I began packing for our weekend getaway to the Oregon Coast. After a stressful week of packing and moving all of my possessions into storage I thought I would be way too exhausted for a road trip Thursday night after work but that silly boy invigorates me and after an iced latte (or two) I was ready for the short trek to Astoria. We checked into The Commodore Hotel in Astoria around 3:00 in the morning on Friday after only being pulled over once on the three hour drive (yay)! We were obviously exhausted and fell asleep as soon as our precious little heads hit the pillows.
Friday we spent the morning at the most darling little coffee shop on the first floor of the hotel sipping mochas and mimosas while Jordan tied up a few loose ends for the work week before heading to the beach. Cannon Beach is such a sweet little beach town we had such a great time just frolicking around in the sand, doing cartwheels and eating tons of candy from the yummiest little pastel candy shop. I was in absolute heaven.
That evening we watched Insurgent at the theatre in Astoria. I haven’t really mentioned this here but I HATE movies. I am totally unwilling to go to movie theaters 99% of the time and when it comes to cuddling in bed and watching movies I am WAY too stir crazy. I actually start pouting and beg to do anything else. I think my distaste for movies stems from my desire to be the center of attention whenever I’m with someone I like. I’m too needy for movies (which I think demonstrates what a treat I am as a girlfriend). That being said I thought Insurgent was so stupid and Shailene Woodley is the most annoying actress but I had a lovely time thanks to Jordan’s comic commentary and the Snickers bites I devoured throughout the film.
Saturday morning we slept in until 10:30 which is a BIG deal for this morning person. I was so excited that my freakishly anal circadian rhythm took a rest and let me sleep in past 7:00. We ate the most delicious little hippie brunch in Astoria before heading back to Cannon Beach to run on the beach and play with the Seagulls. It was so entertaining to people watch in both Cannon Beach and Astoria. I swear Astoria has the weirdest little granola culture and I completely love it #IMissMyDreadlocks (but actually not really that last part).
Saturday evening we curled up in bed and watched The Royal Tenenbaums and I not just enjoyed it but found myself completely obsessed. It was such a cute and quirky film if you haven’t seen it I highly recommend it. Jordan has introduced me to the Wes Anderson films, so far I’ve seen Fantastic Mr.Fox and The Royal Tenenbaums and I have to say for an anti-movie person I really really want to watch more!
Finally on Easter morning we woke up and grabbed mimosas and brunch before beginning the drive back to Seattle. I was sad to say goodbye to our super relaxing weekend vacation but was anxious to get home and catch up on laundry and all of those other boring tasks that I believe Sundays were built for. I love road trips. One on one time in the car always leads to crazy car dance parties, long deep conversations and just this overall sense of closeness and contentment. I couldn’t have dreamed up a better way to spend my Easter weekend.
How did you spend your Easter/Easter weekend? Where do you like to travel for mini-getaways?
