Weekending in northern California is pretty much perf no matter what but throwing my best friend Kaila and a whole lot of sunshine into the mix really is the recipe for the most fantastic girls’ weekend. Kaila and I left for Calistoga Friday afternoon (wearing matching dresses to the airport of course) and after a short delay arrived just in time for dinner with my Dad at a cute little restaurant called Willi’s Wine Bar. It is tapas style (which I love because I always want to try a little of everything) and the goat cheese fritters were the most divine treat I’ve been able to stuff in my mouth in a long long time. After a self induced food coma Kaila and I drifted off to sleep around 10:15pm and enjoyed 9 1/2 hours of uninterrupted happily ever after Napa Valley dreams…it was pure heaven.
On Saturday morning we woke up bright and early to run the Pretty Muddy 5k just down the street from where we were staying. It was Kaila’s first ever race and I am SO happy we were able to run together! It was such a fun atmosphere filled with so many positive women and a plethora of fun, muddy obstacles. Kaila and I were all adrenaline and were determined to win our heat of the race…and surprisingly we did! The race was totally not competitive (and wasn’t even timed) but we still enjoyed soaking up our five minutes of fame in a small town and both called our boyfriends afterwards to gloat about our achievement. Basically we are marathon champions and are sponsored by Lululemon and are also supermodel Victoria’s Secret Angels (it’s no big deal though).
The rest of the day was spent lounging drinking yummy green smoothies by the pool at my favorite spa. On dates I used to like to say one of my favorite hobbies was “spa-ing” and I loved to see boys’ reactions. You should try it some time if you’re trying to seem high maintenance and bougie (:
In the evening we had such a nice dinner filled with lovely conversation with my family before heading back to the spa for a slumber party themed women’s only event. There were mini massages & facials, delicious drinks and chocolates, hot tub time and stations to make custom lotions and body scrubs. I sort of felt like I was attending one of Blair Waldorf’s slumber party soirees. I love any excuse for more pampering so it was obviously fabulous!
Sunday morning we took a quick morning run (I am obsessed with running by vineyards in Napa Valley, it really doesn’t get better) and hike before spending the remainder of our afternoon with my younger brother and sister. They are such little cuties (and so well behaved); I feel so forunate to have siblings so much younger than me, watching them grow up is truly a gift. My little brother Dylan is probably my favorite small child I have ever encountered. He has giant Disney princess yes (and the world’s longest eyelashes). He just melts my heart and I swear he is going to be the biggest heartbreaker one day. I loved grabbing ice cream and playing frisbee with him in the sun all afternoon.
Kaila and I had such an amazing weekend. I am so grateful to have such a wonderful family and such a genuinely kind hearted and loving friend. I’m already counting down for my next trip to Calistoga (3 weeks!!!)
What did you do this past weekend? I want to hear all the details!
P.S. I think I found an apartment, I’m so excited I’m not going to be homeless. More details coming soon, yee!
