This afternoon I am leaving for Napa Valley with my beautiful best friend Kaila. My family lives in Napa area and I am fortunate enough to have the opportunity to visit fairly often. I haven’t been since Christmas which I know isn’t THAT long ago but feels like forever considering I am so used to being spoiled and weekending in Napa Valley every other month (is this an appropriate time to use #Blessed)?
I love Calistoga and have come to view the small town as a second home. I have my favorite coffee shops and restaurants. I know where I like to run in the morning and where I like to hike with my family. I recognize family friends and townspeople on the street and for a nomad like myself I haven’t had a stronger feeling of “home”. I am so fortunate my family decided to move to such a perfect little fairytale wine town! Calistoga (and the surrounding area) really is lovely, one of these days I really want to put together a tour guide so I can share some of my favorite spots (spas/restaurants/wineries) but I’ve never quite got around to it (somehow I’m distracted from blogging whenever I visit).
I am so excited to show Kaila a bit of Napa Valley even if it is such a short vacation. We will be running, hiking, spa-ing and eating our way through Calistoga and I could not be more excited to run around with the little ray of light I am lucky enough to call one of my best friends. Kaila is Ms.Positive Sunshine and I swear she is going to make the best counselor one day. We even bought matching sundresses for our flight together (for under $20 at Forever 21) #Twinning&Winning. I can’t wait to frolic in the California sunshine!
Every time I’m not able to buy an entirely new wardrobe for a trip a little piece of my heart turns black and I die inside. Is it just me that feels like every major life event (and yes weekend trips are MAJOR life events) deserve their own wardrobe styling? Am I the only one turning green with envy as I follow fashion bloggers (who seem to travel for a living) never wearing the same piece twice? I’m not actually as greedy and materialistic as I sound right now (I pinky swear) but I really cannot keep my wandering mind from drifting towards spring shopping sprees every free moment I have. I could be worst, I could be a drug addict!
Since I can’t actually drop $1000 on a few cute outfits for a weekend with the fam I’ve allowed myself to daydream and pretend I can (playing socialite is my favorite hobby, my credit card likes it too…my bank account not so much). I’ve pieced together my ideal packing list for a weekend in Napa Valley. What do you think of my choices?
Flying to Napa:
For whatever reason I love dressing for the airport (especially for short flights like the short hop from Seattle to Santa Rosa). I think this flowy floral dress from Forever 21 has a Northern California boho vibe that is loose and comfortable for a flight. Totes (like this fringed one) are necessary for storing Chapstick, hand lotion, magazines and snacks to carry on your flight and a light jacket is a must because planes are NEVER the temperature you want them to be.
Brunch & Wine Tasting:
Sundays are meant for brunch-ing and in Napa they’re perfect for wine tasting too! I love the Castello di Amorosa for it’s aesthetic appeal (and lavish parties) and I’m obsessed with Schramsberg because we all know I love the bubbles! For wine tasting I think this adorable romper from Urban Outfitters is perfect for a warm day but versatile for touring cool wine cellars. Wrap bracelets are my favorite go-to accessory (I got mine for Christmas from a spa in Napa actually) and you can’t go wrong with a Tory Burch crossbody bag (on my wish list for forever now).
Where does your family live? Do you love to visit “home” just as much as I do? I can’t wait to give my 7 year old brother the biggest hug!
