September marks an entire month spent away from my forever home (up until this point of my life) in the beautiful (rainy) city of Seattle. Although I miss my Space Needle, my puppy, my nanny babies and my best friend, I don’t find myself yearning to be home (not yet at least). To wind up the last day of September I thought I would hop on the blog bandwagon and share a few of my favorite things from September and looking forward into October (my favorite month of the year, especially this year).
Floppy Hats|Now I don’t own one but despite the “No Spend October” restrictions I’ve put in place for myself I can’t help but think I should pick one up at Target or Forever 21 to spruce up my Autumn ensemble. I’ve seen so many chic hats around all through September, I am seriously envious.
Rent the Runway|Since I’ve suddenly become Blair Waldorf and have two separate masquerade balls on the books for the next couple of months I’ve been hunting for gorgeous gowns at affordable prices. Unfortunately in my isolated little corner of Canada this is the most laugh out loud worthy ridiculous request a wannabe Blair Waldorf could ever dream of. While Halifax is lovely it is certainly not Manhattan when it comes to shopping. I’ve found myself seeking alternate options and enamored with the idea of renting a fairytale gown from Rent the Runway. I’ve already reserved one for the charity ball I’m attending at the end of October, should the process go well (please let it fit me!) I hope to rent another fabulous frock for my New Year’s Eve gala.
The Skimm|I recently subscribed to this daily newsletter and I am HOOKED. The Skimm is a quirky, fresh way to “skim” the news each morning for those of us who want to stay in the loop but don’t necessarily enjoy spending hours browsing cnn.com each day. I know I’m getting old because reading the news each morning while drinking Starbs has become a simple and incredibly enjoyable part of my routine.
Navy Handbags|As all good fashion following bloggers like to say “Navy or Nothing” (has anyone else picked up on that fashionable phrase from Manhattan fashion and interior design blogger Mackenzie Horan?). I really consolidated my bag collection when packing for my trip to Nova Scotia meaning I’ve been primarily using my cream Tory Burch handbag (which I love), however, I’ve been lusting over navy quilted handbags and this one is to die for.
French braids| Not only are braids all over the runways but they are actually perfect for lazy girls such as myself. I love to eliminate as many steps as possible from my morning hair/makeup routine. I’ve found myself forcing my cousin Genevieve into French braiding my hair post shower each night leaving me with perfect mermaid beach waves in the morning (and a solid half hour of additional sleep time).
Essays in Love by Alain De Botton|I just picked up this quirky, philosophical novel (in the form of numbered essays) on Sunday and I can’t stop thinking about it. The story itself is ordinary yet the author’s voice is captivating. I doubt Botton has ever written a dull sentence in the entirety of his life. The book theorizes on the stages of love and puts into words the emotions and struggles we have all experienced but have never been able to properly articulate or explain. A must read for the closet hopeless romantics such as myself.
Baking|Now normally I loathe cooking (which is strange because I love eating) but I’ve found myself on a bit of a baking kick. I’ve compiled a list of recipes I want to attempt before I leave Nova Scotia some of which include Carrot Cake, Oatmeal chocolate chip muffins, butternut squash soup, and pumpkin bread. Don’t be expecting a food blog anytime soon but maybe a cute picture of me in an apron?
What have been your favorite things from September? Are you looking forward to October (and HELLO! Blogtober) as much as I am ?
