I’m fueled by double shot iced mochas, multi-colored post it notes, “To Do Lists” in my Erin Condren Planner, and hours in the corner of a local coffee shop. I could almost burst into song, Julie Andrews via The Sound of Music style, as these truly are a few of my favorite things. Does anyone else have little tricks that help make “work” seem a little less boring, and in turn almost exciting?
I’m not going to lie, as much as I love a relaxing day at the spa, a lazy day binging on netflix in bed, and of course adventures running around with friends, there is another part of me that craves the consistency and productivity of a Saturday spent studying at the coffee shop, the feeling of fulfillment as I use my favorite pink felt pen to check off items off of my daily “to-do list” and even the sense of productivity posting a new blog brings me. #TypeAProblems ?
Even on vacation I like to spend a little time in local coffee shops working with a sense of purpose, whether it is blogging (my favorite creative pastime), working on grad school applications, or just organizing my life a bit, I can’t help but gain a bit of peace and joy from these seemingly “monotonous” tasks. This morning Jefferson and I spent a few hours at The Roastery, a local coffee shop in Calistoga, and it totally energized me for the day. Coffee tends to do that doesn’t it?! Of course, it was also helpful that my schedule for the day consisted of time at the pool, a facial, and afternoon high tea. It isn’t difficult to muster up a bit of energy with such a fantastic schedule.
With Winter quarter slowly creeping up on me (January 6th is a week away…eek), I need all of the advice I can get on energy. Cold rainy days, and dark gloomy nights are hardly conducive to productivity. I usually make it to the end of January before I sort of just loose my “drive”, and to be honest, the only reason I even make it through January is my birthday is smack dab in the middle of the month (hello twenty-two, I’m coming for you!). For everyone out there who doesn’t enjoy year round sunshine, how do you stay motivated?
I am DEFINITELY one of those people that thrives off of sunshine, I mean…do I really have to leave California?!
