Halloween is hands down my top favorite holiday in the entire world, even before Christmas and even my birthday and DEFINITELY before Thanksgiving. I start getting excited for Halloween in August because honestly, September really doesn’t have much to offer in terms of months (okay…it’s Jeff’s birthday but the guy can’t compete with a pumpkin). As a kid, halloween meant a pillowcase full of candy to binge eat for the next month (I would seriously come home from school each day and eat around 20 of those “fun sized” pieces, I was gross). And then there are haunted houses and pumpkin patches and corn mazes…I actually sort of hate haunted houses and almost die whenever I commit to going in one but also love them at the same time.
The past week I have become completely OBSESSED with halloween. I’m determined to decorate my apartment in adorable halloween fashion and to wear halloween socks as often as physically possible (which means I might need to make another trip to the sock store). This year for Halloween Jeff and I are traveling to California with two of my very very best friends (Clairey and Nicole) to visit my familia and attend the Pagan Ball at a castle winery in Napa. I don’t think it really gets much better than that.
But I have to say, I’ve had some pretty great all Hallow’s Eves’ over the years, let’s take a walk down memory lane shall we…
Senior year of High School my friend Laura and I thought we were being really cool and decided to drive into Seattle and go to an all ages club/dance party. We were so pure and innocent that we were freaked out by the drunken dancing bunnies and people sneaking in flasks. Still a good Halloween though Starshines!
And then there was my first Halloween at WSU. I didn’t know what to expect you guys, I mean…I practically went trick or treating up until senior year of high school and by practically…that pretty much means I did. I was excited for real live Halloween parties or whatever and for some reason I went a little tanorexic which meant that when I was trying to dress as Ke$ha I actually looked like a professional wrestler and the rest of the time I just looked like a pumpkin. It was awful and is the reason why I really lather on the sunscreen now.
By my sophomore year I was an old pro, so much so that I didn’t even tan myself into a pumpkin. My best friend Nicole came up to visit me and it was literally one of the best nights of my life.
And then there was last year, it was a full fledged Halloweek. There was Freaknight (an EDM festival), a trip to WSU to visit my beautiful sorority sisters, classy (as always) frat parties at UW with Nicole and then visiting WWU where Jeff and I dressed as Barbie and Ken (didn’t I find a keeper?!). We literally traveled all over the state for Halloween, it was crazy and chaotic and I’d be lying if I said there wasn’t any drama involved but it was still Halloween aka the best
night week of the year (although to answer the question someone is bound to ask, yes I was cold).
What are you doing this year for Halloween? Are you dressing up and going out or watching a scary movie with some candy at home? I’m headed to the pumpkin patch this week and I could not be more excited. I’m also currently watching Halloweentown, I’ve never seen it but Jeff swears by it.
