Sometimes I feel like Cinderella, and not in the good way. Cinderella has always been pretty much my least favorite Disney Princess despite her glass slippers there really isn’t anything special about her. Also I think its because secretly I’m living her parallel life in an alternate universe (sidenote, i also think I’m sharing a life with Harry Potter because of the scar on my forehead and the frequent dreams about being HP but, that’s for another post). Okay but really yesterday morning I woke up and I did not have little birds fluttering around opening the shutters and singing with me. Nope. Instead I had a horrible headache.
I would have called in sick to both of my jobs and spent the rest of the day without ever leaving my 400 square foot apartment but I gave myself a quick pep talk and told myself I was better than that. Plus I’d already missed work on Tuesday for a dentist appointment so I felt guilty missing another day.Cinderella must have had time for the dentist her teeth literally sparkled.
Of course their is nothing better than spending time with small children when you have a headache. Just kidding, it’s totally the worst. The evil step sisters are nothing compared to kids before breakfast. I walked in the front door and for some reason the dishes seemed so much dirtier that day, it seemed as if there was ten times more laundry to fold and the little Sugarplum fairies were all like-
“Cinderella, Cinderella, Make us oatmeal, Make us pancakes”
“I want cereal”
“I want yogurt with granola”
“Not the circle granola the granola in the jar”
“Ew not pears, I want strawberries”
“If there aren’t any strawberries I’m not eating”
“Fine I’ll eat”.
Seriously these girls treat breakfast like it should be a formal five course meal complete with caviar to start.
These Sugarplum fairies must not know that they aren’t at the royal ball yet… I devised a devious plan to show them up. After much thought and consideration I decided they’d have to settle for just oatmeal and cereal. Okay maybe not so devious, maybe just lazy. I thought I was being fairly generous considering I knew they weren’t going to eat whatever I prepared for them anyways. Sure enough I was right and within minutes they were requesting waffles. Luckily sugarplum fairy daddy stepped in and saved the day. He’s much scarier than me despite what the name implies.
After a whirl wind of hair-brushing, lunch-preparing and library book-finding we were out the door and on the way to the girls’ school. The fresh air did wonders for my headache but at this point I could feel my throat swelling and my legs aching. The Sugarplum fairies made it to school without so much as whine or whimper. I decided this meant I should probably get rid of my own Fairy Princess pout. I am the adult right?
When the Sugarplum princesses hug me goodbye I have a total “Uptown Girls” moment (sidenote:if you haven’t seen Uptown Girls go and rent it or find it on netflix, there’s a miniature pig, Dakota Fanning and its totally cute). My Fairy Godmother must have been sprinkling fairy dust on my life because I was suddenly totally transformed, sure I still felt like the walking dead but at least my attitude was better. As I hugged the Sugarplum fairies goodbye I realized that sometimes you don’t need glass slippers or a royal ball to be happy. And even though I don’t have mice to create couture gowns for me or bluebirds to style my hair, I still have a pretty fabulous life.
1)Speaking of fabulous, today Jeff did a totally fabulous Breakfast at Tiffany’s inspired photoshoot with me for my new blog design which is still in the process of being created. Here are my favorites:
2) I tried TRX with my Mom earlier this week (Tuesday) and I am STILL sore. I’m pretty sure it was invented by Gisele Bundchen because its crazy intense. Like I was dying and wanted to quit intense.
3) This morning Jeff and I discovered the cutest Brunch spot just a few blocks from our apartment. It offers bottomless mimosas (for just $10), a chandelier AND a living wall (aka a wall with plants growing on it). Plus the food was pretty delicious too! It’s called “The Coterie Room” so if you like champagne in the morning you should probably check it out.
4) This is the fourth time I’ve had to retype this blog basically from scratch because wordpress is selfish and doesn’t want me to get any studying done SOOO everyone should extra appreciate this blog!
