Okay so this post is a little late considering lent began last Wednesday, however I’m not Catholic so…what can you expect. I’ve never given up anything for lent before, every year I tell myself next year I’m giving up soda, or facebook, or taco time or whatever but I’m a total flake and it never happens.
This past weekend Jeff and I were visiting my best friend L and her boyfriend in Bellingham. Over dinner we began discussing lent, L mentioned she was giving up alcohol which we all found ironic since she doesn’t drink much to begin with. Since L and I always laugh at the stupid things we get mad at our boyfriend’s about and the arguments we look back and realize are ridiculous we decided to challenge ourselves with a bet.
So here it is-
No fighting for lent, this means no yelling, swearing, eye rolling, phone throwing (my iphone will appreciate this one), name calling, etc. Basically all the things we’re taught not to do in preschool anyways. The winning couple gets a dinner of their choice paid for by the other couple and if we both win we decided to take a trip to Vancouver for the weekend together (win/win right?).
This challenge totally freaked me out because I’m a total brat and I can’t go forty minutes without fighting with Jeff let alone forty days, but I decided in the name of Catholicism (and a free dinner) I’d give it a try.
Are you giving up anything for lent? Let me know how it goes and I’ll keep you updated!
P.S. I spent President’s day with my two favorite Nicoles having a princess tea party. The event was invite only and BYOT (bring your own tiara) so that’s why you might have missed it. The cucumber sandwiches were absolutely divine and the company beyond comparison!
